Divorce vs PPK

I've been considering buying a PPK/S, SS-.380 (+/- 500.00). I've always wanted one - the 'ole James Bond thing I guess. This wasn't too hard to sway the wife on since she likes the idea of having something around that she can handle (told her that it's for her, lol) as my xd40 is a little hard for her to control.
Well, took her to Gander Mtn yesterday so she could put one in her hand(and further my agenda). Things were going well right up to reaching the counter, seems they've added a 75th anniversary edition - oh oh oh oh oh. Now the s**** has hit the fan!!!!!
Now, the problem(s) are that all our (my) firearm purchases have been "utilitarian" in nature, never based on "collectability". So I guess I'm looking for suggestions.....how do I justify spending a grand for a collectable, for her, that (other than maybe a few rounds) she won't be able to shoot!

Thanks for any help you can offer!!!!

another post with my .02

I think the stainless steel ppk/s looks much better than the 75th anniversary edition...I'd rather have a shooter than a collectable; that said, the "investment" line is probably a decent one if you don't plan on shooting it.

true; at a gun shop yesterday they showed me a genuine german ww2 walther p1 that was plated in 24 carat gold and had diamonds, rubies, & sapphires inlaid in the grips. What's the point? Yeah; it's ridiculous good looking, but you can't even shoot it...

Well, first off, I wanted a PPK also, until I picked it up and saw/felt the cheapness of its quality. Wobbly magazine, no slide lock back, no slide release (just pop out the crappy mag to release slide and put it back in?? lame)

Then I read about a NIB 75th anniversary edition that arrived broken, from the factory.

so no way would I buy the 75th, and only on a wicked sale would I consider the PPK or PPK-S.
