Here's a good article on that rifle.

I carry a Ruger M77 .308. I have several rifles in .308 and I try to keep from having so many different calibers to keep the ammo inventory simple.

Winchester 9410 and the 410 Slug is my long gun of choice for deer hunting. Here in Ohio we have to use shotguns firing slugs, Pistols firing straight walled cartridges .357 caliber or bigger or muzzle loading black powder rifles. No modern rifles are allow for deer hunting. I use to use my BPS and 12 gauge slugs but got tired of getting kicked by 3 inch slugs and the accuracy was never very good. With my Winchester 9410 I can shoot 2 inch groups at 50 yards and that is plenty far to shoot deer with a 410 slug. Giving the terrain I hunt in I don't often get much longer shots.

Mine is a Savage Model 10FP – with AccuTrigger in .308. I fell in love with their Accu Trigger, its a sweet shooting tack driver. Rifle also doubles as my "Counter Sniper Rifle."

I got a couple Savages, only 1 has the Accu-Trigger. Its my right handed 17HMR, my lefty 17HMR is normal. Feels like a gunsmith worked on the trigger, good stuff.

Even the normal Savages are built very well and very accurate.

I think your .270 selection is a good one. I have a Winchester Model 70 Featherweight in .270 and it is a tack driver. It's also hard on my shoulder. I must be a glutton for punishment 'cause I'm going to an auction tommorrow to try and buy a Ruger No.1 chambered in .280. I would think that thing's gonna hurt too. Oh well.
