Looking for a new CCW, input desired
So I am looking for an new CCW. I am presently carrying my XD-40 Service and for the most part its just fine but I want a smaller handgun for easier concealment, especially in summer wear.
At present I am thinking about a Smith and Wesson 640 357magnum, Taurus Millennium Pro in 9mm or 40S&W, and of course an XD SC in 9mm or 40S&W. Kahr have also caught my attention but they seem a bit expensive. Kel-Tec is also on my radar seem a bit on the econ side. None-the-less I am looking for a smaller CCW than my Service and would love to here what you guys are carrying. Especially if those guns are something I have not mentioned. I would like to stay with 9mm or greater, I would rather not carry a smaller cartridge or gun. I am looking for a compact not a pocket gun. Thanks mcb |

I'd either chop the grip on your service or get an XD40sc. Ofcourse I'm bias to those two options.

I think you're smart to go with an all-steel revolver if you're looking at .357. The lightweight scandium stuff is just uncontrollable in my opinion. The 640 seems like a good choice for a winter coat pocket gun.
If you're looking for an all-around carry gun, you might want to step it down a notch and go with an airweight .38 special. You can load it with Speer 135 gr gold dot short barrel ammo and get plenty of recoil if that's your thing. The 15 oz weight makes it a true all-around carry gun that sits in the cargo shorts pocket as well as in an IWB holster.

you're gonna be hard pressed to talk us out of the XD SC. for all the supposed "over-ratedness", the compact glocks are pretty nice, if they fit your hands (G-26, 27, et al). I would like to take a good look at the bersa/firestorm mini thunder (9, 40, 45) line.
if money is no issue, look at some of the higher end compact 1911s... kimber, springfield, para ordnance, colt defender. lotsa options... fire them all and choose. let us know what you decide. |

i carry either a xd9 sc or my glock 23.. lately i have been carrying my g23 because one, its a .40 over the 9mm.. the handle isnt much longer then the xd, and it holds more ammo.. i have the 16 rounders for my xd but then it makes the handle a regular service model size and i do not like it one bit! so id say if you dont mind having low ammo count, go with the xd9-40 with the regular 9-10 round with a pierce grip or use a compact glock like a 19/23/38..

Based on my preferences, XD-9SC or Ruger SP101. Some say that the Ruger is too heavy, which I don't understand, but it handles heavy loads great.

+1 on the Bersa's they are well made little guns and vastly underrated, they are not Colt's Kimber's or any one of the top makers SA included but they work and work good in my experience.

I love my Kimber Ultra Carry. It's become my main carry gun. The typical slim profile of a 1911 plus the light weight and compact barrel and grip make this Kimber a very comfortable and easy carry. I am running around in T-shirts and shorts and this gun just conceals.

Be on the lookout for a single stack Kel Tec PF-9.
I say this because I would love a range report |

I'd get a S&W snub nose for smaller carry, one of the variants capable of .357 mag so that you can reliably shoot .38+ also. With .38+ the titanium series does not have horrible recoil.
