Remington 710

What's everyone have to say about this rifle I'm going to get it in a 30-06. It's on sale until tomorrow for $299 at Sports authority. It comes with a bushnel 3x9x40 scope.

If I was on the market for a new deer rifle, I'd get it. I have an old Model 700 (in .222Rem) that was my great-grandfather's. It still shoots like a laser and the action is great.

Buy a Stevens 200, Weatherby Vanguard, Mossberg ATR or Savage 110, even if those guns are more expensive.
A used M700 would be a better than a new 710

The 710 is a throwaway gun

When I was looking for a bargain basement magnumb, I bought a new production Weatherby Vanguard.

Other opinions on the 710

Steer clear of the 710.

the 710 is probably not your best choice, the triggers are horrible and can only be slightly improved. As already stated a 110 savage is an excellent firearm, but I would save up a little longer and purchase a rem 700. The Rem 700 has an easily adjustable trigger, plus, the action is probably the most popular action used for custom rifles if you ever want to add a custom barrel. I have owned a lot of rifles and most all can be made to shoot well, but rem 700's seem to always shoot well right out of the box! Also, I just bought a remington 700 ADL .223 at walmart for 300.00. With a quick trigger adjustment and some handloads it averages (including flyers) .75 inch groups.

I would check out Savage bolt-actions. They are well-built and amazingly accurate for the price.

Also interesting are the Charles Daly bolt actions. They use a Mauser action.

I had a 710 in 30-06 and sold it at a loss. Like others have said, it is a "throw away rifle". Spend afew more dollars and get a Savage 110. Their Accu-trigger is one of the best off the shelf. I ended up with 2, one in 7mm for me and one in 30-06 for my wife. Money well spent.

I'm gonna get flamed here, but I don't see too much of a problem with the 710. I have one, and yea, the triggers aren't great, but the gun itself is light, and I can make pretty good groups at 100 yards which is a long shot for Minnesota. I do agree with the idea of a model 700 for a substitution though.
