Any High Point pistol owners out there?

We're having a gun show here this weekend, and while looking at pistols, I found a dealer selling High Point pistols of most well-known calbers, and none cost more than $150 before taxes. I'm expecting to get my C&C card in the next couple of weeks, and one of these pistols seems like a good one to carry in the car's door pocket. If it gets stolen, it's not like they took a $500 pistol.

The fact that they're inexpensive and US-made is attractive, and they look well-made even if they're not slick-looking like XD's or Glocks. Their grip feels like I would be comfortable with it but they're heavier-feeling than other poly-frame pistols.

Most websites mention them favorably, though others lump them in with the cheap, failure-prone pistols like Bryco and Jennings.

Anyone out there own or shoot these? What's good and bad about them? Any ideas and suggestions would be appreciated.

Thank you,
-Bill

They are reiliable and have a great warranty. If you want a "car door gun" this is the one.

I have only seen gangbangers with these. Other than that, I have no objective data to present besides a magazine review/article I read at B&Nobles which viewed it favoribly.

I suppose for a door gun it would do, but so would a cheap used revolver.

Yeah, a cheap used revolver doesn't hold 10 rounds nor is it new. It's also in most cases not availible in popular semi-auto chamberings. That would be a selling point to me, to add a door gun of the same caliber as one I already own (XD40 for example) so as to not have to buy more ammo of a different flavor, especially if you reload... you won't need new dies.

If you are planning on storing a pistol in your car, please do not.

You might only be out $150, but that stolen pistol might be used in an assault, drive-by, robbery, or murder 5 years from now.

+1
You can get a $35 lockbox that goes under your seat that will fit a pistol; it'd be negligent not to use one.

They showed us those in the C&C class. You lock the gun up when you leave the car. A car thief would be stealing your ride, and finding the gun would be secondary. But those gun safes can be broken into if the thief is determined. If you want to carry in the car, which seems like a good idea most of the time, it might be smart to carry the gun with you after leaving the car as long as you won't be breaking any laws.

A cheap used revolver also doesn't have a warranty. This cheap pistol has one that transfers from one owner to the next.

With the price of the gun being so low, I was thinking of buying two, one in the chambering I already have, and the other in 9mm. The 9mm would become a cheaper to shoot plinking pistol than my XD-40. But something about that idea seems really extravagant. Seemed like a good idea at the time...

Well, that is what almost all of us do anyhow.
