Should I or should I not... buy a P239?

After reading a couple posts on this forum and several folks pointing out either the problem with the Sig gun or the customer service (or the lack thereof), my enthusiasm for a P239 is somewhat dampened.

Should I still get a P239 or should I just look for something else?

Another gun on my list is the HK P2000SK, which is also DA/SA. But the Sig came out ahead of the HK on my list primarily because of the better finish (the wood grip and the stainless finish slide on the SAS), and the aluminum frame instead of the polymer frame.

What do you all think? Never thought buying a gun can be such a hard decision!!

Thanks in advance for any input.

Sig makes an excellent weapon period, HK is overpriced and over rated. Get the Sig and don't worry about it. If you based all your gun purchases on peoples 'problems', you'd own a sling shot.....

Be smart - Forget both and buy a Walther P99

Actually, the HK 2000 is a sweet gun. I almost went w/ one, but bought the USP compact because of the frame safety (to carry cocked and locked)

If I didn't have the P99 compact, I'd probably buy a P2000

Most fo the FUD I have heard about SIG has been w.r.t. the 1911 variants, not the P2xx firearms. That said, I have a 239 and a 226R DAK and love them both. I also have an HK USP40 I got in '95 or so and I love it too.

I have had about 5 contacts with SIG customer service and have never had an issue. (Perhaps because they are 45 minutes away and I made sure they knew that....LOL). One was for a sight issue. Dropped it off and they shipped it back 3 days later good as new.

Look at it this way. How many negatives have you heard about SIG customer service? How many pistols do you think they have sold? Do the math.......

Personally, I wouldn't buy anything with a SIG badge right now. HK is no longer "overpriced" considering a USP actualy costs less nowadays than a P2xx pistol. SIGArms customer service is inexcusable right now. That should have NO relation to how many guns they've sold. If we want to look at it that way, S&W sold the most handguns out of any manufacturer last year and they also have one of the BEST customer relations in the industry. Glock definitely sold more guns than SIG, and their customer relations also ranks very high among consumers.

I've seen people lose interest in a brand for many silly reasons. I don't however, think that a little customer service is too much to ask for a company whose base models are over $700. I'll stick with companies who have a little after-purchase support.

YMMV,

B9

I love H&K's; If I weren't a poor college student, I'd own one right now The USP40 is a great weapon. Took me one day of shooting my friend's and I knew I wanted one.

I have both a 229 in 40S&W and a 226 in 9mm. I love them both. Sadly I must part with my 229 in favor of another XD9tac for competition reasons. The 239 is a great gun for peoplewith small hands. If you are looking for a compact single stack pistol there are plenty of pistols to choose from. I realy don't think I would pick a SIG for that purpose. They are great pistols but they have their purpose. Also if you are going to have a single stack magazine the biggest bullets you can get make up for the lack of ammo.

Kahr P45. Cheaper than the SIG 239 and has the edge of the .45.

I have a HK P2000 (not the sk) and a Sig P229. Honestly, I love them both, but the nod goes to the Sig. Keep in mind that the Department of Homeland Security selected five models of firearms from two different manufacturers: Sig (P226, P229 and P239) and HK (USP and P2000). They fired approximately 2.9 million rounds through the various test guns submitted from many companies before selecting the five models they purchased.

If you really like what the P239 has to offer you, I say go for it.

Appreciate all the inputs, especial einheit's "sling shot" analogy! My enthusiasm is back again. I've had no real ownership experience with either Sig or HK. Have rented the P229 and USP40 just for the sake of comparison; must've rented each for 4, 5 times so far just to really get a feel of them. Honestly, can't tell a whole lot of differences between the two in comfort and accuracy; both are doing quite well for me. USP does kick a bit more probably due to the lighter polymer frame, thats why I was leaning more toward the Sig. Knight would you care to elaborate the reason you think the 239 is not a good choice for compact? I am actually interested in its single stack feature, hoping the slimmer width will help if I ever decide to carry it.
