Please help me ID this old revolver

A coworker let me borrow this thing in hopes to figure out what it is. Apperently this pistol is from WWII and was taken off of a Japanese pilot. That is all I know. It has absolutely no markings on it at all.

G&A TV just showed a similar revolver on their show a couple of days ago. Look like a S&W model 3 cut down. It might be a H&R clone though. Any word on the Calibre?

No clue at all. A 9mm round fits in the cylinder okay, but won't go in all the way.

There is some marking on the bottom of the grip but I can't make it out. It says patent pending, and MPAT June, 16 06 or June 16 96 and Aug 25 06 or Aug 25 96.

OK Most likely 38 S&W. You swear there are no markings at all! Checked under the grips? Look hard at the finish as well see if it might be covered up under the nickle? Was there ever a front sight? does it look as though the gun might have been altered at all? most likely 06 for 1906. Might be an Iver Johnson or Harrington and Richardson.

It has no front sight so I have reason to suspect that it is sawed off. It looks a lot like an Iver Johnson.

I am thinking it may be a Hopkins and Allen 1906 in 38 S&W. I can't find any pics of the rare short S&W that I think it is, but I think S&W was done with top break revos, by 1898. I will keep looking this one has my intrest.

Japan bought alot of S&W revolvers durring the Russo/Japaneese war and it could be one of these cut down. Are you shure it wasnt taken off a Jap Pimp after the war?

Funny thing about that is there were a few S&W model 3's in 38S&W that were made in the 2 inch barrel format. If it is a Model 3 2" barreled gun it could be quite a treasure. they are kind of rare and sought after. I just saw this last night on Guns and Ammo TV. That is why I am so interested.
