Looking for an addition: Kimber 1911?
I'm itching for a new gun. Anyone have or had expericence with the Kimber 1911 TLE/RL II series (Stainless or Custom)? This is what I'm leaning toward. I'm looking for suggestions on other arms I should be looking at that are similar. Want to spend about $800 for this one...
I'm also considering size. I currently have a XD40 so I was considering getting my Kimber in 40SW so I could share ammo, but also thought about 45... Not sure what I wanted to do so I thought I would tap into the WEALTH of intelligent people here at the forums...

That's actually a great gun you thinking about. You'll find many folks are extremly happy with them...I own a Tactical Pro II from Kimber, but the TLE/RL II series with a crimson trace grip, was my intended purchase. After Handling both and with my purpose of all day carry with "shorts, t-shirt, etc. I opted for the lighter wieght of the TAC Pro II (alloyed frame).

jeff221,
I have a Kimber Ultra Carry II with an external extractor and have not had one problem with my weapon since day one new out of the box. Wait I'll take that back, I did have a problem with my slide lock and called Kimber Cust. Service and they sent me a knew one within a week. No problem. |

Having shot about 40 matches this season, I can tell you that most of the 1911s I have seen that had issues are Kimbers and most of them had the external extractor. I don't know why, it is what it is.
For this reason, personally, I will never own a Kimber. I have had good luck with my SA 1911 and don't feel a need to stray from what I know works. Not sure if this helps... OS

I have shot two Kimbers, both were Custom IIs...one stainless and the other was parkerized.
I was VERY impressed with the shooting quality of both pistols. I had no prior expereince with Kimber 1911s and tore the 10-ring out of a few targets with both models. No failures either and the owners neither one, said they had any troubles with their Kimbers. Both had internal extractors, though. When you can pick up a maker's pistol...two seperate and unrelated sessions, and eat the 10-ring out of the target, you HAVE to take notice. I like the Kimber Custom II series so much that I am "upgrading" my SA GI model to a parked Custom II this October. I have fooled around with Colts enough to know you're buying a name that will need a boatload of work to fly right. The Springer Loadeds I have no real-world shooting experience with and Sig's new GSR looks pretty but is more expensive and the feedback from indeprndent owners (not the gunrags, they love everything) has been spotty. Not to mention that the SA loaded and GSR are more expensive than the base Custom II. If the Kimber appeals to you, go for it. I have shot 1911s for 16 years and never took one in the hand, cold and shot as well as I did with the Custom II series Kimbers. I would, however stay away from the external extractor Kimbers as the majority of reports show they're spotty on reliability. Why an external extractor works on Hi-Powers, Glocks and other autos but nobody can make it fly on a 1911 is a total mystery. Avoid it and stick with what works. Brother Browning put an internal extractor on the 1911 and external extractors on other autos he designed for a reason. - Brickboy240

I have a Custom Target 2 that has been flawless, I love this pistol so much that I wore most of the finish off of it so I sent it to Tripp research had it hard chromed and now its pretty again.
