Armalite is overpriced for what you get, Bushy's have a following, Olyarms is the best for the money, but nothing beats something made with your own two hands!

Unless you have the bolt break in the middle of your biggest match to date...

You get what you pay for. How big is your budget? (from low to high) RockRiver, Bushy, DPMS, Armalite and there is always JP http://www.jprifles.com

I like one of my Franken Rifles as much as my high zoot Byshy with the gazillion rails.

Beware the rifle is only a fraction if the cost of an AR. EoTech Holosight, Trijicon ACOG TA11, and Trijicon ACOG Ta01 are some of the "must have" optics Oh and the Beta Mags and lots of rounds

Thumbs up

I save on the receivers, stocks, and Yankee hill it up. I have a JP carrier and DPMS bolt. White Oak barrel. Those are the parts that make all the difference. I believe in the old school method of rifle building. receivers just hold the parts. Float a good barrel and get good parts and you are good to go.

I'm getting a Stag AR next week. Ships out from the factory today. Like others have said, the gun is the first investment, the "accessories" are another money pit in theirselves. What I like about the AR's is that if you get your lower reciever the way you like it, you can add different uppers to make it into whatever you want. I'm getting the 16" barrel flattop and plan on getting a 24" barreled upper for longer ranged stuff later on.

Lots of good advice. I'd just reiterate one point - building it yourself is very satisfying, less expensive, and most importantly - you learn a lot about the gun.

Start up budget is going to be about $1000.

I think this is going to be fun.

Thanks for the input. Never built a firearm before, going to be interesting.

now you just need some ammo.

(Shot one of these recently. Excellent rifle with one of the best triggers I have ever pulled. Only drawback........the rifle is a little heavy for a carbine)
