SA 1911 9mm

I'm considering getting a SA 1911 full size 9mm for range/IDPA/getting the girlfriend her own gun purposes. Seems like a good choice for low recoil fun and games but I don't know anyone with any experience with them.

Thoughts? Comments?? Alternatives???

I have a 1911 Series 70 Colt 9mm. It is a very soft shooting platform. Mags can be frustrating for reliability but if you stick with the SA mags you should be ok.

It's the one gun that I regret selling. Go for it. You won't regret it.

Impact guns have Springfield mags for 18.00. Metalform mags work great as well.

I had a 9mm 1911 for a very long time. I ended up trading it away for a guitar amplifier I wanted badly (and the guy who had it wanted my gun). It was a fair trade, but I miss that gun. It was a cheap gun (a Llama), but was 100% reliable for all the years I had it.

As far as shooting, it was by far the smoothest (least felt recoil) of any 9mm gun I've ever shot.

It is interesting that Springfield seems to sell them (at least list them) for more money than the .45 caliber 1911s.

Peace,
D.

That is funny, I am in the same predicament. I want a cheaper to run 1911 that would be just for range and game fun and soft shooting for younger shooters.

btw I ocasionally shoot down at bullseye off of manchester... ever been there?

Not yet. I shoot out at Top Gun. I used to shoot at Bullseye ages ago when they were in the old armory building. How do you like shooting there?

Not as much as shooting out at the farm... but it is much closer than the farm. poorly ventelated and dark. But in general there are some really nice people that shoot there... I wouldn't recomend shooting there in the afternoon till it cools back down though...

I had heard that. It's one of the reasons I go out to TG. Very nice ventilation system out there. Also they shoot IDPA type matches once a month and also do pin shoots. Got one of those coming up tomorrow. I do think you have to be a member though.

Thanks for the info.
