Good Deal? - Used Colt Defender 1911
I saw it at a pawn shop for about $550 for a used model. Looks to be in good condition. Good deal? I also saw a full sized Colt 1911 that had M1911 something on the slide for about the same price.

Man! I want one of those so bad, I can taste it..(mmmmm, Hoppe's #9... and steel...)
I believe that is a fair price. You may want to check Gunbroker or Gunsamerica.com to get a sounding. If you get it, let me know how it shoots. I handled one a couple months ago and fell in LOVE with it. The Defender is very high on my wish list.

Good deal!
Last year, I paid 500 for a Series 70 Combat Commander from a pawn shop. The Defenders can be ammo-picky and you may need some extractor adjustments and spring replacements, but if it appeals to you go for it. I never cared for the muzzle flip from my Series 80 Officers Model, but thats a personal preference. The Defender would make an outstanding carry gun, though. (just be prepared to do some minor smithing on it to make it 100% reliable...if it IS reliable right away, consider it a bonus) - Brickboy240

A month after owning mine the slide slammed shut on an empty mag. This is with the colt factory mag that came with the pistol. The slide pushed the metal pointed follower forward and dinged the feed ramp all to heck and back. Remember the frame is not steel so the dent in the feed ramp was substantial. I called colt and they wanted to charge me to fix it saying it was not their fault. The fix was buying Wilson mags with the plastic follower so there was nothing to ding the feed ramp. My pistol had slammed home several times before so it was a factory mag problem.
Soflo If you want a gun this size why not go with a Springfield Armory Micro 1911. At least you get a no BS lifetime warranty and they will replace recoil springs where Colt would not. Now at that price I would seroiusly think about it.....but you will be screwed if there is something wrong with it since the warrnty if I remeber right was only for a year and only the original owner. |

...james, thanks for the tip. I was looking at the micro's when I decided upon my Para C 7-45 and had not thought about a gun that small for a couple years when I recently stumbled upon a Defender at a recent gun show.
As you know, my plate is overflowing at the moment, so I won't be buying one of those until after I have my Mil spec worked over by you!
