Hi-Point ?????

Ok, so I know Hi-Points are cheap trunk guns but i was actually looking at getting a .9mm in the compact version.......Let me know if anyone has any expireance with them or could recommend a decent one, as I know nothing about them other than they are dirt cheap.

There seems to be two different camps. Those that think they are junk and those that own them.
I have shot the C9 a few times and it goes bang when you pull the trigger and puts the bullet where you aim it. I own the 9mm carbine and it's pretty damn reliable and accurate.

Check out the hipoint forums too.

My wife's cousin has one. 9mm 4" barrel with a "peep hole" rear sight. Looks to be built decently for a $100 gun. I just can't hit anything with it. I don't like the sights on it at all.

ive herd good and bad about them on various message boards. i have personally shot one and found it to be very unrealiable jamming all the time etc. but i have read alot of replies that people have never had problems with them etc. i think most of the problem lies in the magazine not the actual action of the gun.

and owning a Hi Point is better than not having a gun at all!

Very true about having the no gun thing. However I am hoping to get my xd-40 back and that would be my home defense gun, as for the hi-point....well I just want a cheap plinking toy and it wouldnt hurt to have another gun.

I've got a C-9 that I got about a year ago, just to see if they're as bad as "everyone" said they were. Well, that was somewhere between 1200 and 1500 rounds ago. (I lost count. Sorry.) I've had two jams in that time, both failures to feed. One was with FMJ ammo, the other with a JHP load.

I've got the ghost ring sight on mine and I like it. Others don't. The gun come with standard sights, and the ghost ring is included. (I would imagine if someone had lost the standard sight, Hi-Point would send you another one if you called and asked.)

They're not "great" guns. They are great guns for the money. They work, and they're as accurate as I can shoot. They're a bit large for CC, but the 9mm is not as big as some people make it out to be. It's not a lot bigger than my Makarov, and not much heavier. If I had to carry it, it would do the job. Fobus and Uncle Mikes make holsters that will work with them.

The magazines do seem to be the weak point. If you get one that just will not shoot, contact the company, and they'll send you a new magazine for free.

Over the last year I have seen the basic trend in internet threads about them go from "total junk" by the majority, to "they're cheap, they're ugly, but they work" by the majority.

For more information.

I'm with cajun bass. I owned a highpoint for about a year and a half. It was my first pistol (C9). I used it every week @ the range With 1 or 2 failures other that time. I purchased an XD40 after I felt I was ready for a bigger caliber, Nicer pistol. I sold the C9 to a friend who still uses it to this day. And actually wish I would have kept it for some plinking.

We've had a C9 in the family since the year Hi-Point and Stollard and Iberia all rolled into one company (1993 i think). Probably have 6k+ rounds through it over the years w/ a handful of failures. It functions better than any other gun in it's price range, and there's something to be said for a weapon you can drop down a rock face while camping/rapelling, pick it up and it still hits POA.

I am too much of a 1911 guy and despite being able to shred a bullseye with this C9, always go back to the 1911

A couple other things about Hi Point, they are made here in the US and their customer service is, in my opinion, the best of any gun company including the big boys.
If you buy a used HP you can send it to them and they will go over it and fix or upgrade it for free. If you need a part, call and it will arrive in a couple days free. They live up to the lifetime warranty and are very quick to take care of things.
