interesting gun purchase

I friend of mine, who happens to be a cop, asked me to sell a 6904 for him. It was a stolen recovered gun that was sold to him through normal insurance channels.
-
I noticed some minor surface rust and scratches on the alloy frame. The gun dry fired nicely and looked to me to be a little used pistol. I wanted to scoop.
-
I called S&W speaking with customer service. Heck of a nice guy. I told him what I had. He got excited and explained that this was close to the beginning of the second generation of the all metal line and this particular pistol left the factory on October 1988! He also said he loved that particular series 69XX because of the perfect fit in his hand.
-
I got excited. I gave the thing a quick clean and went to the range. The gun is considered a compact, but not a subcompact. The handling was very good. I like the DA/SA though I'm considering a trigger job. The accuracy was right on the money. The felt recoil was very very mild.
-
The gun needs a good cleaning. The gun has scratches, minor rust.
-
I break the thing down and work the rust out with Fitz. Rust is gone. I give a very detailed cleaning with the Blue Wonder stuff ya'll turned me on to. I use the armadillo wax and buff. All but the deepest scratches on the aluminum frame become undetectible. It dries and relaxes overnight.
In the morning I work the aluminum portion with a black sharpie.
-
It is not new. But it is close. The blue hue on the slide and how is nicely contrasts the frame is dessert to the eye. To compare to taste, is not like bitting a death by chocolate cake. It is more like enjoying a well made flan.
-
The gun has the single piece grip, ambi safety with off up and drop hammer when on, 12+1 capacity, bobbed hammer, iron white dot sights, texture on the front of the trigger guard, external extractor that has a chambered round indicator, and single side slide release.
-
It was a lot of fun to work this thing over. At the end of the day, I decided to buy it. It cost me $250. I got a deal on a really nice S&W pistol.
