P-08 Luger - would you buy a remake?
A company called Mitchell used to make a modern day P-08 Luger many years ago, but for some reason it wasn't a success. If some modern day company made one now and sold them at a reasonable price ($400), would you buy one?
![]() I don't know of such a idea like this, but just wondering what your thoughts were?

The 08 is definitely a gun I want someday to own, but I'll save up and get an original.

I've often thought it would be awesome if there were a company producing vintage style firearms for various periods.
I would flip if there were a company producing Mil-Spec WW2 pistols from all sides of the war. These itmes are our history, and present the evolution to where we are today. What I would love to see made: Sten Lugers Walthers Webleys New Enfields, Geweher 43's, and STG-44 (WOULDN'T IT KICK ASS TO HAVE THE ORIGINAL ASSAULT RIFLE!) You would think that as mass produced as these weapons were that someone would be able to find the machienery that did it dirt cheap and start making affordable repros. |

I agree. I have a 1918 Erfurt made P-08 with East German Volkspolezei markings and all matching numbers on every part. How a Luger made it through the last year of WWI, the in-between war years in Germany, WWII and an East German re-build and was in this good of condition, with a very good bore and all matching parts (down to the firing pin) is beyond me.
As you can guess, I don't shoot it very often but yes, its VERY fun to shoot (despite the dinky sights) and very accurate. I even have an original Volkspolezei holster and red armband to go with it. Neat Cold War relic, if you ask me. Pulled it out of a Waco pawn shop for 350 bucks in the mid 90s! Don't know much about the Mitchell Lugers or how they shoot but I have handled a few and they sure seemed well made. Collectability? I dunno...none of them have a "story" quite like my baby. Oh..if it could talk. - Brickboy240

I think I would buy one. But pricing would make or break it. If you make enough of them to get the cost down, I think they would sell. But if you try to prove the market with small batches you will get few nibbles, and then believe there is no market. Someone with a "Field of Dreams" vision would do ok but would not get rich quick.

I'd buy an original first. but assuming I couldn't buy one then yeah I'd buy a remake.

I'd like to have a new one, but only if they could match the original craftmanship, those are pretty complex pistols and I would bet no company could make a "cheap" $400 version and have it be of good quailty. I think that's why the Germans quit making them, they took too long to make and cost a lot more than the replacement did. And according to Wikipedia the Mauser Firearms Co. still produces a small number of P-08's for the collector market.

I agree with Cuda I dont think that it would be possible to make a Luger affordable these days, there is just to much hand fitting involved. Maybe in China with CNC machines it would be feasible but then the Quality wouldnt be there.
