Of course I'm basing my estimates on what I think I could buy them for locally. I prefer a S&W but a Colt Trooper is a great gun too. Buy the one you like and feels best in your hand. Here's some good information to digest before buying a used revolver. http://www.chuckhawks.com/used_handgun.htm http://yarchive.net/gun/revolver/revolver_checking.html Both are fine revolvers, I hope you can pick one or both up. bd |

both are 4 " barrels, which is the length I like. They both feel good in the hands. I have had an itch to buy a revolver for quite a while, just might have to scratch it this weekend when the wife is out of town

The Trooper is a bit more uncommon than the 686. Both are good shooters. I used to have a 586 (686 in carbon blued steel) and stupidly sold it years ago. Kept my Mod. 19, though. Gotta love S&W 357s...they're very hard to beat.
The price is good on the Trooper and is about 50-60 bucks too high on the 686. - Brickboy240

I admit a S&W bias on my part, but if there are any problems with the gun, S&W will take care of it as long as it wasn't butchered by someone. With the Colt you are SOL. I agree that the Smith is a bit high in price.

I'd offer $400 for the S&W...great gun at a fair price.
