1911 mag question
I feel a bit dumb for asking this, but......
How do you take apart a 1911 magazine? Does the base just slide off? Or do I need to push in on that small "button" on the center and then slide it off?? I've never taken mine apart to clean before, and it's LONG overdue. Thanks in advance for the help.

Rdub has you covered.
Also, some lesser expensive 1911 mags do not have baseplates that slide off. For those, just press the follower down an inch or so and stick a phillips head screwdriver into the holes on the side of the mag body to keep the spring down and turn the follower slightly sideways and out she comes. Assemble in reverse order. Also, while it is good to clean out the mag body, do not use oils to lube the follower. The best stuff is that graphite spray that dries to a powder. Cannot remember the name of it right now, but since it dries to a powder, theres no oil to collect more dirt. good luck with them...yes magazines NEED to be kept fairly clean to work 100% all the time on a 1911. Best magazines? To me, the Wilson 47Ds and Chip McCormicks are the best - they're all I own. - Brickboy240

The stock mags that come with the SA 1911's do not have a removeable baseplate, but they aren't cheap mags. IIRC, they are made by Metalform, and are built to original specs. I have 2 of the stock mags, and 2 Wilson 47D mags. Both have functioned well in my 1911.
You have to figure out what mags your gun likes/dislikes, and go in the direction it tells you to.
