Any muzzleloader fans?

Anyone have a muzzleloader you're proud of? I bought a Thompson Center Omega 50 cal and have truly fallen in love with it. I'm hitting in the red with 2 inch shot groups at 200 yards! With a smoking gun!! I can't wait until deer season in Iowa. In Iowa you can't shoot a rifle, but heck with the Thompson Omega there isn't much difference!! Anyone else have experience with a muzzleloader??

I have never owned one but I am planning on getting one before deer season. Nothing like reaching out a bit further to nab a white tail.

Hey Old School, you won't regret it. These new muzzleloaders are so easy to use and clean it is ridiculous. Not to mention how the trigger housing comes down so you can put in the primer and once you close it, it seals. You can hunt in the snow, sleet, or rain with no problems. I have become a firm believer. Try out the Thompson Center Omega. It is accurate and fun to shoot. It takes me all of 5 minutes to clean it and store it!! Sounds like a freeakin' commercial!!

i dont like to think of the new muzzleloaders as an actual muzzleloader but a single shot rifle that takes a little longer to load! like you said a 2" group @ 200 yards! that is almost better than some rifles!

ive shot the traditional ones before and they are a blast! if i ever got into them (which im sure i will some day lol since they are a firearm!) i would defently go traditional (percusion cap not flint lock lol) for hunting and such. but to each his own i guess!

I recently started doing some looking into this. I'd love to do a build it yourself Kentucky or revolutionary war period flint lock. The kits I've seen are all $500 plus though.

however the sub $200 CVA muzzle loaders from cabelas have also peaked my interest.

The TC Scout from Ron xd357's Karma is one of the all-time most fun guns to shoot ever, period.
.50 cal, affordable ammo, big big hole, big giant boom.
Modern inline BlackPow has taken a great deal of the PITA factor out.
Easy cleaning and loading nowadays.

Guess I may have to look into it then. What kind of accuracy can you get from the modern versions?

There was two summer back when I was 16-17 that my brother and I carried nothing but muzzle-loaders when walking around the family farm. I had a Thompson Center 58cal. Big Bore and a Lyman 54cal. plains pistol. My brother carried a Thompson Center 50cal. White Mountain Carbine and a replica of a Spiller & Burr replica 36cal. cap and ball revolver. We shot a lot of ground hogs, trees, and just about anything else we could find to shoot that did not get us into too much trouble. We went through several pounds of black powder and hundreds of round balls those two summers. It was a lot of fun. We both still have the guns and usually dig them out for muzzle-loader deer season although my brother broke down and got a 50 caliber muzzle loading barrel for his Thompson Center Encore. I always tell him he is cheating when he hunts with that; 209 primers, sabots, jacketed pistol bullet, and a scope of all things. He even used pyrodex now, what fun it that hardly any smoke.
