Its funny you say that because I've looking at the Mini 14 and mini 30s lately........I just can't seem to bring myself to buy another AR type weapon for $600+........but i kinda like the AR 180.........

Sorry to hi jack the thread.

Our mini 14 shoots great, that is until that barrel heats up. Then the groups really spread out. It has never really had any problems though. Worth the price if only going to plink

I would have been happy to unload my Mini-14 for that price.

I know it feels good in the hand and seems light and handy while you fondle it in the store...that got me, too. What I found was that this little rifle was VERY inaccurate. Partly due to its terrible and not very adjustable trigger and also its thin barrel heated up fast and groups at 50yds looked like shotgun patterns after a while. It was also finicky about what aftermarket magazines it liked. I also didn otl ike the sharp, loud report while plinking and field shooting, preferring my SKSs for a short range varmint-getter and leaving the Mini-14 at home. Eventually, I got sick of fooling with it and got rid of it.

Really, I'd look at something else...the Mini-14 was a good idea, but has loads of problems. I'd never own one again...ever. The SKS or one of the AK clones makes a better plinker or short range varmint gun. If you HAVE to have a 223, buy a M-77 or other quality bolt gun in 223 - you'll have less headaches, trust me!

I was not impressed with the Mini-14 at all.

For about 100-200 more you can buy a fairly accurate AK or an AR. Both of those are much more proven than the Mini-14.
