45-70 question
I have a friend who has a nice Browning 45-70. I am trying to find out for him if you can shoot 45 colt in this rifle to save a little money on ammo. Appreciate any wisdom imparted.

Sure, he can shoot 45 Colt through it, but only once!
 NO NO NO, this is a very bad idea. The 45 Colt is not a low powered substitute for the 45/70. If it's too costly to shoot 45/70 then sell the rifle and get something else. sorry for shouting, I got over worked on this question

Tell him to take up handloading.
Handloading lower powered .45-70's shouldn't be much more expensive than handloading .45 Colt.

He already handloads, except HOT! I think he just a cheapskate. He'll get over it. Thanks for the replies.
 I told him the 45 colt was a no go, he was pretty sure he couldn't, but just wanted to make sure.
