Beretta 92fs?

I was recently looking at getting the Beretta 92fs. This was going to be for a Birthday present. So what do you think/thoughts about the Beretta? Is there anything i need to be aware of? Is there any other pistol u would recomend in that price range?

Blake.

Shot one and LOVED IT!

Awesome gun. I think the trigger is great in both double and single action. Easy dissasembly (http://www.beretta92fs.com/), readily available parts and accessories including plentiful no ban magazines. Great gun. I think my next full size 9mm pistol may be a Beretta 92. Although there seems to be a little debate about the LONGGG-TERM longevity of a 92 before replacing parts.

If you haven't yet try doing some lurking here http://www.berettaforum.net/. I like the look of the board too. . . looks like retro hs2000talk.com.

I'm not a big fan. There are about a billion 9mm autos in that same price range. I'd go for a SIG or even a Glock before I dropped 5 or 6 hundred on a Beretta.

For that matter, I'd rather have my XD-9 than a Beretta 92 - even if they were the same price. They're just too big for what they do in my opinion. A fine duty gun if you have a big leather hip rig to wear it with (Police) but you're not going to use a 92fs for CCW, and there's no light rail for a bedside gun.

Just my 2 cents, since you asked. I have a buddy with a 92 Elite 2 (brigadier slide, dual-tone finish) and it's sweet to look at but doesn't shoot any better than my XD and would be a pain to conceal.

I haven't shot a Sig yet, but if a Sig's trigger is anywhere close to a Beretta 92 then you might want to consider a Sig.

I know Sigs have an unquestionable record and longevity.

great weapon, do not worry about durability. Very few pistols have the 92 track record. with good maintenance a 92 can go 60,000 rnds or more with many berettas making it to six digits. It is true that they are large, but they aren't any bigger than a 1911 and people have carried them for years.

You're absolutely correct about overall size. The concern is thickness. You can put slim grips on a 1911 and it's substantially thinner than the double-stack Beretta.

I'm getting ahead of myself though I guess. He's made no mention of concealed carry.

I have owned a 92FS since I turned 21. I bought it for training and teaching others to shoot, I did not take into consideration the size and weigh factors though so it proved to be a waste of money in that regard. I have never "loved" my beretta but it has proven to be utterly reliable, accurate, and comfortable to shoot.

At one point I went 6 months without cleaning my beretta, shooting 2-3 hundred rounds a month without a single failure of any kind, It feeds and fires every ammo I've put through it. Even with crappy after market magazines it has performed flawlessly, which is more than I can say for the 1911's I've fired. 9mm is a totally managable cartridge for everyone, the recoil from .357 mag and .45 have proven to be unacceptable to every woman I've shot with.

I can easily shoot 3-4" groups at 25 yards from a standing position with it. It's easy to disassemble for cleaning, it does not require you pull the trigger for dissassembly which can be good for new gun owners. The FS has a slide mounted safety/decocker that some loathe, but I have never minded.

Blued 92fs's can be had used in the 250-350 range, new in the 400+ range. My stainless ran me shy of 600. I would never hesitate to recommend the 92 FS to anyone considering buying one. that said my only real beef with this handgun is berettas choice to ship them with a full length PLASTIC guide rod. Though in 4 years of shooting I observed almost no wear at all on my plastic rod, but I replaced it with a blued steel one anyway about a year ago.

They are actually, they're a good deal thicker than any 1911 I've fired, I haven't compared it to my XD but I'd venture a guess that it's thicker than my xd.45 too. They're not uncomfortable though.

It would be a fine gun for you then.

In 9mm, non-polymer, I'd look really hard at both the CZ75 and a Hi-Power, if it were me.
