on sale this week at Big-5 sporting goods (west coast)

not the most exciting surplus rifle and the ammo is tough, but not impossible (8x56r)
http://big5sportinggoods.shoplocal.c...pagenumber%3d2
Straight pull bolt action (not as good as a K-31), interesting though for $119

also Mosin Nagant M-44 combo with accessories for $89. Not too shabby and you can hand select at the store.

Big-5 stores are mostly west coast, Nevada, Arizona...

shoot I missed the m44 being on sale! I might have to run out and check them out.

I saw the m95 and did a lot of research. decided for the money I'd rather have another K31 etc.

The M38 doesn't have a side folding bayonet and to me its better balanced. Also the suggested use for the M44 is with the bayonet extended so that your rifle will shoot straight and not have the groups pull to one side. I used to have a Russian M44 and I didn't notice a difference. I currently own a 91/59 which is basically a full length 91/30 cut down to carbine length in 1959. What ever flavor you choose in these short barreled Mosins, you are in for a good pop to the shoulder! Shoot one at night and you are in for a psychedelic treat of flame and color!

actually I guess I can't compare the two. every told me to try for an m38 if I found one. which I did and fell in love. However I have yet to meet a firearm I didn't like.

I think they need to expand to the southeastern part of the country. It isn't fair that you guys have stores like Big 5 and Cabela's and whatnot. All we have here is Academy. Well, at least we still have the Mom and Pop Shops.

Used to own one of the Steyr's. Great conversion piece, not to accurate, and that straight pull bolt is a B!TCH!! to cycle. Was kinda fun though, I bought mine for like $70 from Rose's many moons ago. Wish I hadn't sold it now.
