kahr pm9 vs kel-tec p11
For those of you who have shot both guns, if any.. or even those who have shot either gun I suppose.. mind sharing your thoughts on felt recoil with each? I've been thinking lots lately about what gun I'd like to get for warm weather carry, and these two.. and possibly the kel-tec pf-9 when it comes out. I have no access to either of these guns to shoot for my own experience. Hopefully someone out there has shot both and can give a good comparison. I know neither is going to be a range gun, but I'm just wondering which one is better on recoil and not as harsh on the hand so if you want to take it to the range for a bit, you aren't punished as much.

The P11 isn't a fun gun. It's a CCW tool, nothing else. Even with the trigger fixes, the trigger pull is a LOOOOOONG DAO trigger. Mine was reliable and effective, but I couldn't (or didn't want to) get used to it to the point I was supremely confident carrying it. It was everything it claimed to be, but it just wasn't for me. I did borrow it back while my XD was in the shop, but it will be returned shortly to its new owner. I still have visitation rights like that.

kind of confirms what I already thought about the p-11. I imagine the pf-9 will be the exact same way. I haven't read much bad about controllability or recoil being too nasty on the pm-9.. but I haven't read anything about really it from anyone on here.. people I'd trust more to give an honest answer. It would be just a ccw gun, but I'd not want to have to be punished should I want to go shoot 50-100 rounds once in a while to keep fresh with it. I'd love to have an XD SC, but for me personally, I think I'd rather have something slimmer.. if possible. Not to say a SC wouldn't be a good winter gun, but for summer I'm gonna need something slim. Just what that may end up being, who knows.. wish I could shoot these guns to get my own opinion first.

I wouldn't call it punishing, per se. It is a pretty accurate little gun. It just isn't fun to shoot, partially because it has that long DAO trigger. It's not a gun I felt like putting in the time and effort to become as proficient as I should be with a carry piece. With practice, time and effort, you can learn to use anything. It just wasn't a road I was willing to travel. I was comfortable concealing and shooting my XD40, so I decided to sell it to my bro-in-law that really wanted it.

Well, I don't have both of those, but I do have the PM9 and the P3AT.
The PM9 has a MUCH better fit and finish. It just seems better made all the way around. As far as shooting them, the PM9 is MUCH more accurate and much less punishing to shoot. I practice with both of them at least once a month, since I carry one or the other. I have to really make myself shoot the entire box from the Keltec, but the PM9 is no sweat. Service from Kahr has been 100% outstanding and they've gone above and beyond what they have to do. Keltec's service is supposed to be every bit as good. I carry the PM9 when I can, and the P3AT when I have to have one that can 100% disappear in a pocket. Bear in mind that that WONT be the case with the P11 or PF9. Both of those are on a par with the PM9 size-wise. You won't go wrong with either, but my first choice would definitely be the PM9.

I've got the P9 and my fiancee has the PM9. The recoil is substantial but not uncomfortable with either. The trigger is just sooooo good on the Kahrs. The Kahr is the gun that made me change my mind about DAO autoloaders.

My wife's got the PM9 and I shoot it quite a bit. It really surprized me how controlable it was and how accurate it is. The recoil is snappy, but not uncontrolable with definate muzzle flip. The trigger is smooth with the long DAO travel. The small size and light weight make it disappear on your body.
If the wife ever decides to get something different, this gun won't be leaving the family. |

Ok, well that's good news about the kahr. I honestly plan on buying a smaller kel-tec eventually too.. probably the p3at, but I have been really interested in the pm9 recently. Only bad news is now I'm going to either have to try and find a good used one somewhere, or do what I didn't want to do, spend a ton of money lol. But hey, what's money when it's used for purchasing a gun, that you know you can carry almost 100 % of the time regardless of what you're wearing, especially should your life ever be in danger. In that situation, I'd pay $10,000 for that gun in order to have it at that moment.
I almost bought a kahr p40 covert at a gunshow last weekend. It looked brand new, no scratches, nothing. It was flawless. I just wasn't sure if I wanted a .40 in a lighter gun like that, especially with the shorter grip. I may be wrong, who knows. Anyway the dang thing was $350 out the door, no tax, nothing. I almost wish I would have purchased it. My XD service is .40, yet it's a heavier gun so I guess comparing it's recoil can't really do much good when compared to such a lighter gun. Maybe the guy will be at the next gun show near here. He lives in this city, and sells only at gun shows.. so hopefully he will be there, and if I decide I'd like that gun, I can get it then. Only a month away. |

An MK40, perhaps, but the PM is a touch light for the .40
