The Springfield GI is not much more money...any reason you don't want one? I have one and love it.

For the money against a Springer, I still would go with a RIA. You can pick up a RIA for easily less than 300 and I don't think you'll find a SA for less than 400. Even more so if you are planning on upgrading some of the parts.

Make sure you check into the Other 1911s over at 1911Forums. Ivan (aka BlackDragon) works for RIA/Armscor and is very open and helpful in the forums. He will take care of any questions or issues you might have.

Good Luck!

The Rock Islands are strictly Mil-Spec GI. You will have to go to the Armscor if you want the upgrades.

I regularly see Springer GIs (parkerized ones) for well under 400 dollars. Stinaless ones run around 429 or so.

Not much more for the quality and warranty of Springfield Armory.

I swear, my SA GI 1911 shoots groups that are as tight as my two Colts...the GI cost MUCH less.

I have seen used SA for 499.00 around here but no GI series for that much, but if i do find one here for that much, it is mine!! I will do some looking this weekend. Plus the fact of the warranty but SA is still, in the 1911, a Brazilian made gun for parts but, aseembled in Illinois, so the manufacturing in a phillipino gun and a brazilian gun are still european in design, but the RIA was a depot for re-doing the 1911 when the war was on.

P.S. Went to a pawn shop where they sell the RIA and one customer has 11,000 rounds through his!! Gives the owner a update every week on how many rounds he has thru it!! I think that is amazing enough for any gun.
