kahr p40 compact, opinions, price?
Anyone have any experience with the kahr p40 compact? http://www.kahr.com/pistols_40sw.html#40sw
Had a chance to pick one up for $350, I loved how it felt and how slim it was. Am looking for something for a carry weapon that I can conceal easier when wearing light clothing and I thought this would work great. The gun was used as far as I know, but it looked flawless. I was told new they go for around $550-$600.. this was afterwards after the gun show had already ended, when I asked at a dealer. The show is open again tomorrow, would just have to drive a bit to it. So, any thoughts on this gun, as I'm sure it's a great gun.. and I think the price is good too but I am not for sure. I haven't shot any compact gun before, so I have no clue what to expect as far as recoil in one.. and have no experience shooting a kahr either to know what the recoil is like in them. So, any opinions would be greatly appreciated.. and as soon as possible hopefully, because I may consider making the drive back there and pick it up tomorrow for that price. One more thing, since I'm pretty new to pistols I'm not exactly positive what some things mean still. When it says it has no magazine disconnect, what does that mean? |

My wife has a Kahr PM9. They are high quality guns. Shoots real well for a gun that small. For a 9mm it has a decent kick because of it's light weight. I really like shooting it, though with the 6 round magazine my pinky finger is under the gun. The trigger is rather heavy with a long pull but it's not really that bad.
No mag disconnect means that if there is a round in the chamber and no mag in the gun, it will still fire. |

so... nobody else has any info? I know kahr's are good guns. Just wondering if anyone has shot this particular one. For shooting I'd prefer the longer grip vs the compact like this one has, but this isn't going to be a range gun. I just know I want a good quality gun for a carry piece, and even though I don't NEED it right now, within the next few months I plan on purchasing something anyways, and if this is a good price for this.. and the gun is liked by others (due to the shorter grip), I may just go buy it. Anyway hopefully anyone else has experience with this gun, being a .40 so they can give me opinions on how they like the recoil, or not. What I really need to know though, is this a good price or not? I know the gun is a quality gun, so the only thing now is price. If $350 out the door, no tax is a good price, I may just head out in the morning for the 150 mile trip to the gun show, (only worth going since my gf's car gets excellent gas mileage and will cost me very little). Anyway, hopefully when I wake up in the morning someone who has experience with this will have repsponded.. and I can plan my trip.

That is a good price for that gun. My wife's Kahr came with 2 magazines, a short 6 round and an extended 7 round. With the 7 round magazine I can get my whole hand on the grip.

350 is extremely low price. I'd make sure its not a "too good to be true" type thing. But it iif legit, I'd pick it up, Kahr's are nice guns. My uncle who's a police commander swears by them.

Well, decided to not head out and get that gun. I know kahr's are nice guns, but I really needed to know if anyone had any experience with a P series in .40, as I know what people say about smaller light weight kel-tecs in 9mm. I figured .40 would be like that or worse as far as felt recoil. But, hard to say without either hearing from anyone who has shot one, or shooting one myself. So, unless any other info comes up.. I think i'll put that on hold.. maybe that guy will be at the next gunshow near here next month, I'd assume he would be since he lives in this city. And if then I know I want that in .40, I can pick it up if he has it still. Otherwise I think I may just opt for buying that gun in 9mm, or even get the PM9 instead of a P9 or P40. Really just need a gun that I can conceal easily, because I am almost positive my XD I can't do it easily. I'm not a big framed person and I just think I would print too much. That and I think I'd rather have the thinness of that model of kahr vs the xd, because I'd carry more often. Anyway, if anyone has experience with the P40 covert, or PM9, or PM40 let me know because I'm really interested in these guns and if I find one at the next gun show hopefully I'll know enough by then to buy it.

To put the size of the PM9 into perspective, I can place the gun in my open hand and cover the whole thing up. This thing is really small for a 9mm. Since it's a single stack, it's less than an inch wide and light enough that you don't really know that you're carrying it. I've got a front pocket holster for it and can carry it there with no problem.
