Pistol grips are more comfortable for shooting and allow one more point to ease recoil and aid controllability.
It's not for "firing from the hip" like your media is telling you. Though that's fun, it doesn't do anything for you.

are we talking about a pistol grip only or a shopulder stock with a pistlo grip below more like a AR?

pistol grips are good for any close quarters situation. Just like drawing and aiming with a handgun, bringing upa shotgun and sighting takes just as long. With pistol grips you point and shoot. I guarantee I can hit any body sized target within 7 yds with my pistol grips from the hip. No I don't go shooting skeet that way. But pistol grips definately have there place and purpose on a shotgun for home defense.

we're talking about a grip like on an AR, at least I am.. not just a pistol grip by itself.

For those talking about the spec ops from Knoxx.......
