Here's mine. It's a 1943 model. It is a blast to shoot. My GF also has one, though hers is a 1942. I told her its not realy hers though till she shoots it

BTW, I think most people consider it a sin to modify one.

Well if you give it the downturned sniper style bolt that is a good addition. I saw one that was also jeweled and on an aftermarket stock with bipod for 185 bucks and now really regret not buying it. It also came with the original stock as well. Nothing wrong with sporterizing a 100 dollar gun. lol.

Here are pics of my M44. I've left it stock, and the only mod I'm likely to make is to instal a set of Mojo sights.

As far as sporterizing a $100 gun is concerned, be sure you know what you have before you go messing with it. Sometimes you may luck into something that you can sell to a collector and go buy 2 more for your own purposes.

Our grandparents and great grandparents never would have imagined that some of the surplus guns available to purchase by the pound would be worth as much as they are today. I still get sick to my stomach when I come upon a botched sporter job at a gunshop.

Beauty of an M44! I know EXACTLY what you are talking about with "Botched". I found one locally... It's an M44... Guy like soldered on a piece of sheet metal (like duct crap too), bent it, added a rail, heated the bolt and bent it, added a nut onto the end of the bolt, added about a 4" by 1/2" piece of LDF plywood wrapped in gauze for a pistol grip, and BADLY painted (and chopped) the stock. Also removed the bayonet. I cry every time I see it. The idiots still want $99 for it. Then I see almost perfect M91/30s for sale for the same price at Fleet Farm? I have been saddened by this sighting. I think I should eventually buy an AK to make up for my sorrows.
