DAO revolvers

Looking at a Ruger Sp101 that is DAO and has no exsposed hammer . I know its great , I have a SP101 with a hammer and SA/DA but thought this may be nice as there is no spurred hammer to snag anything . What are you guys thoughts on DAO revolvers? I know the main thing is that I wont be able to cock it for a nice crisp SA shot .

if you de spur the existing hammer you can still cock it in single action though its a little more of a pain to do. The non spurred hammer that comes in a sp 101 does not have that ability.

I have a chance to get one for $449 new in satin stainless steel . I know they are great guns , but having the DA/SA and the DAO would be the best of both worlds . I was gonna get the GP100 but DAMN its big . It would really be large to carry . I thought it was the size of my Berettta M9 , but I was wrong , its a lot bigger . So I chose the SP101 DAO .

I would rather have one w/ a bobbed hammer so it's possible to do SA shots.
Anything is better than a regular hammer sticking out catching on everything.

Agreed. I bobbed the hammer on my S&W M36 and like it much better than the hammerless designs I have shot.

I found that with the bobbed hammer, I can pull the trigger just enough to start the hammer back, then grab it with my thumb and pull it back the rest of the way. Don't forget to release the trigger if you do this!

I believe so . I think that S&W's ILS "safety key lock " will be a downfall in the future . So far Ruger is the king of revolvers in my book . I pray they never get the ILS in their revolvers.
