New scattergun!
I just picked up a new 870 today with 18" barrel and 6+1 capacity. I plan on putting a new stock with pistol grip ,a light mount, and a sling. Tis my new bedside gun. I'll have to post pics in the Bump In Da Night thread in the photo gallery.

Nice pick up!! I highly recommend the SpeedFeed III and IV stocks...they are great on the 870s.

That is what I am looking at getting. I may add a side saddle too.

good choice
There is somone in the trading post forum with a choate pistol grip stock for an 870 and he is willing to trade for a factory stock. I currently have the same one on my 870 and I love it. Light weight and a good recoil pad. Also you can add spacers to it if you have long arms.
I put a tritium front sight on mine and it is perfect for nighttime situations

I haven't shot my scattergun since I've installed a pistolgrip stock BUT here's my take.
It looks way cool. It feels way strange. Don't like it really. I liked the feel when I had my Speedfeed regular style butt stock installed. I don't know why but that is my opinion.
Anyone else in this quandary???

I got one like that but a 20 gauge so the wife isn't scared to shoot it. I pity the fool....

Remington's website says that the magazine capacity is 7 rounds. But I can only get 6 in the magazine and I have read in some other places that the mag capacity is 6. So which is it?
Also, what is the choke on the end of the barrel? Is it imp. cyl or mod?

Damn manufacturers... The magazine holds six, but if you count the one in the chamber it holds seven, so they say it's a "seven shot magazine". My 870 holds six in the magazine. Liars...
My 870 has pistol grips both fore and aft, folding stock with extra ammo rack, heat shield, 70-lumen light with touch-activated switch and all that. Pretty scary looking - I have it in case of riot or SHTF-type events - its appearance and that *snik-CRAK* of the slide tends to moderate the behavior of anti-social individuals. I don't know if it's the best choice of a bedside gun though; mine is a GP-100 loaded with 357 Medium rounds (Rem Golden Sabers) which is a lot easier on the eyes and ears in a (more than likely) darkened room in which I've just woken up from a deep slumber. I'd rather have something that isn't a bear to operate if I'm getting woken up in the middle of the night.

I like the shotgun as the bedside gun because there is less penetration through walls with buckshot that with most handgun and rifle calibers.
