Need help with a Winchester 94

I just bought a Winchester 94AE in 357 mag. The gun is in great shape except for one thing. The link tap that holds the rounds in the magazine is not working properly and the gun does not function properly. The gun is in excellent shape otherwise. I have searched the net including Brownells and Numerich for a new link without luck. Do you guys have any idea where I can get some Winchester Parts.

You might want to try the boards at SASS (the Single Action Shooting Society)...you know...the Cowboy Action Shooters.

I have gotten more info from those guys on my Marlin leverguns and Ruger Vaquero than I care to know! It seems as if there is somebody on the SASS Wire that is a specialist in just about every sort of cowboy-era firearm. Many gunsmiths and collectors that might have spare parts or know what you need.

The only 94 Winnies that I own are 30-30s, so I can't help you. My pistol caliber 44 and 357 leverguns are both Marlins. The Winchester 94 was designed to throw longer rifle-length rounds and is known to be problematic with shorter pistol rounds. That does not mean they cannot work right - Dad has a 44 mag Trapper that runs fine.

Good luck...but I'll bet somebody at SASS is an expert on the Winchester 94 leverguns.

Sure the part is called a "Link Tap"

I don't see a link tap listed on the parts list:

Winchester Model 94 post 1964

Maybe you are looking for the part by the wrong name.

They do list a "Complete Link" on the parts page and Nurmrich has them in stock.

If all goes well with the economy and I stay employed, I might be caribou hunting out of Fairbanks next July or August.

I'll stop by for a beer.
