Considering a Ruger Mk III 22/45

I'm considering purchacing a Ruger Mk III 22/45 tomorrow. I already have a Walther P22, and a .22 conversion for my AR15. I am considering the Ruger as a possible future host for a .22 can. The plan is to have a can and a variety of fun guns to use it with.

So, is the Ruger Mk III 22/45 worth the coin? Anything to look out for? Any particular model to consider? I will probably end up either getting a Tac Sol Pac Lite upper reciever for it, or having the existing reciever worked for mounts and refinished in a matte black or OD eventually, if I get one.

I consider it worth it. My husband and I both have one. The only change I have made to mine is adding a $35 front FO sight which I really like.

I have an MKII 22/45 5" with the bull barrel and it's a blast to shoot. Also it's a good gun to get new shooters involved with. The heavy bull barrel reduces the recoil (even if the recoil is from a .22) so it doesn't intimidate a new shooter.

Normal field strip is a piece of cake, but the full strip process can be a PITA if you're not used to it.

+1 on being a good gun for first-time shooters. I took my girlfriend to the range with it, and within 50 rounds she was putting in ~3" groups @ 10 yds with it; good enough that it sits in her nightstand while the XD45 sits in mine.

I'll go out on a limb and recommend the Browning Buckmark instead

+1

I have the blue version and it has aged well. Very good choice.

I have the blued MKII version with the 5.5" bull barrel and target sights. Have shot the daylights out of it over the past 10 years and it has never broken down. My daughter has now discovered the 22-45 and she is starting to put lots of rounds through the thing. To this day, this is the only 22 pistol I own.

Yes, if you shoot 1911s, Hi-Powers or any other centerfire with a similar grip angle..I think the 22-45 makes alot of sense.

I would have ditched it years ago if it gave me trouble and I might buy a Single Six revolver to play with here in the near future but I have NO PLANS of buying another semiauto 22 pistol. I have found the 22-45 to be very good indeed.

I am really happy with mine. Volquartsen internals, 1911 grips, HiViz sights...

The TacSol uppers are very nice, and they make a great host for a can.

The Mark III 22/45 is the next gun on my list for the various reasons listed in this thread. I definetely recommend this purchase!

The MKIII is a great pistol! I would certainly recommend one, and you can literally save the money in ammo to pay for the pistol within a couple of months..
