None of my guns ever see WD-40...period.

The reasons NOT to use that product are many...do the research. WD-40 has kept more gunsmiths busy than any other cleaner/lube.

WD-40 is a Water Displacer, not a gun cleaner!

There are many other options like Gunscrubber, BreakFree CLP, Hoppes, etc. that are available at most local walmarts & such.

After scrubbing my guns with Hoppes #9, I rinse the crud out with WD-40. Then I take compressed air and blow it all out. Then I oil the critical parts.

I've heard of folks using WD-40 on their guns for 30 years. It's less harsh than carb or brake parts cleaner.

i dont see the point in useing it. if there is a small chance it could screw something up then i dont want to take that chance.
i use brake cleaner from walmart that only cost $1.50 for a big spray can. and then i follow it up with break-free clp

I use WD-40 on my Remington 870. I often duck hunt in the rain.

It works great as a water dissipater, and I spray it on a rag and wipe everything down before reassembly.

Gun has ran great for 10 years. (like you could hurt one of these).

I use hopes and Rem oil on my XD.

Don't put that stuff on your weapons. Use dedicated gun cleaners and lube. Cleaning guns is not where you should look to trim the budget, or use WD-40, just because grandpa used it for 50 years, and his duck gun ran fine.

Grandpa used WD-40 most likely, because it was all he had around. Or could not find Hoppes at the corner store and cheaped out with some all purpose WD-40 and did not know better. Mine did!

Any Wal Mart sells Rem Oil, Break Free and Tetra Grease...these are miles above WD-40...go get some. There ARE other good lubes like Mil-Pro 7 and Blue Wonder...but th others are easily found for cheap at any Wal Mart and will work just fine. I love Tetra Grease for slide rails on autopistols.

WD-40 dries to a laquer over time and creates more problems that it solves. Its really best to stay away from it.
