10mm advice

So my regular carry weapon crapped out on me. I was using a 1911 Kimber, but the external extractor quit working and Kimber and I didn't see eye to eye on how to fix the problem. So I am in the market for a new gun to carry.

I have been thinking about the possibility of getting a 10mm for a carry gun. Does anyone have any experience with the 10 for carry? What are some good options as far as the gunitself? Any real world experience would be appreciated. I am not completely sold on the idea, but I am seriously considering it.

The 29 is nice - another option is EAA Witness

The Compact holds 12+1. Holsters and sights aren't as abundant as for Glock but there are some holster makers that make them for Witness pistols. I believe Crossbreed does. Street price is right around $400, give or take . . . EAA Witness 10MM Steel, Compact, 12 Rd Mags The compact is 7.3" OAL, 3.6" bbl, 1.4" wide and 4.5" high. It weighs 30ozs

i dont know the number but glock also makes a full size 10mm thats 15 + 1
that has got to be the most firepower in a service size pistol that you can get. well at least of guns that it is possible to carry everyday.

Dan Wesson

If your already carrying a 1911, why not check out Dan Wesson. They make both fullsize and commander size guns in 10mm. My CBOB (bobtailed commander) in .45 has been very reliable and accurate. I've got a buddy with a pre-CZ 10mm commander that he carries often.

Thanks for the responses.

Do any of you guys carry a 10mm? I read about why the FBI quit using the round, just wondering what the consensus is about carrying one.

I liked my 1911 and the 45 round, but I don't want to reflexively get another one without covering my bases.

I don't see the point unless you're in the woods. Personally, if I were to get a 10mm, it would need a large capacity. I think it's too powerful for carry use, and the larger models don't suit me for carry as well...I like smaller guns.

If you can accurately and reliably get good groupings with fast sustained fire with the 10mm, go ahead and carry. But I think a 9mm or better is just as effective on human targets...and quick follow up shots can make up for bad shot placement.

Just my $.02

Sw 1076

i have the stainless SW 1076 aka FBI gun in 10mm and love it, sweet trigger and no real recoil prob for me, but i think the overpenitration and possibly the female agents (and possibly the wimpassss males) said it had too much recoil. i would by an XD in 10mm the day it came out...mortage the house if i had too.

With the right ammo it's a great carry gun. I own a Dan Wesson CBOB. And IMHO you can never have enough power when the SHTF.
