What in the world? Cabella's M-N prices...
Me and Mrs. theEldest just spent a couple hours wandering around our new Cabela's gawking and soaking it in--the first visit for both of us. As you can probably imagine, I spent most of my time in the gun section, and much of that perusing the used racks for anything interesting.
I turned up a 1929 hex-receivered Izzy 91/30 that looked to be numbers-matching in relatively good shape for $199, which seemed about $75 high to me, but the real kicker was a garden-variety Izzy M44 for $399! It was in pretty nice shape, but not that nice. Can any of my fellow combloc nuts give me any possible reasons why a regular M44 would be drawing a four-hundred-dollar price tag? Maybe if it was a mint-condition Finn I could see it, but it seemed really high to me.

I had a similar experience today, in fact. I'm just getting into this whole MN rifle thing, so I know very little about them, but Cabella's had a very garden variety looking specimen in well worn condition for $450. I'm a Mosin-Nagant n00b, so I dunno either.

simply put.
no.
the Hex reciever izzy is kind of high. i definately wouldnt pay that much for it. but the M44. . .
thats insane
. there is no way a M44 should be that much. ever. You can get them at gun shows for $75-$100. I have NEVER seen a M44 for $$ like that. Its absurd.

Dan, they sell used guns for more than they cost new in most shops. A couple of months ago I was at the Glendale cabelas and they had a glock 22 used for $629 and it dident even have night sites. If you are going to buy used from them make shure you bring alot of lube.

I stopped buying from Cabela's a couple years ago for this very reason and have never looked back.

Buy ammo there when they're having a deep discount sale. That's about it.
Some months ago I got a shopping cart full of federal bulk .22 lr there at $11 a box. The original blue box, not the new maroon box. Other stuff too but that was a pretty good buy, I thought.

I don't have a Cabelas store near me, but they sound like a carbon copy of Gander Mountain as far as gun prices go.
Funny thing is that they SAY they buy used guns, but if I took a similar condition M44 into a Cabelas or GM, they would only offer me maybe 75-100 bucks for the thing. Then, they ask 400 bucks for the same thing in their used racks!
I understand that they have to pay for that expensive store, but thats simply highway robbery. Who buys guns at these places? I am guessing many do, otherwise, they wold not engage in these practices.
I wish I could get what they ask for my guns...I'd sell half my collection and retrire early tomorrow! LOL

This has been a gripe of mine for a while. Cabela's if awfully proud of their merchandise, and price it accordingly.
The thing is, that they will price match, but I don't know if you could find an advertised price at another place for something like that.
