SKS question
Okay I'm also interested in getting a SKS soon. I was offered
early model preban Norinco unissued 1963 model with bayonet, threaded (not pinned) barrel, milled bolt carrier, milled trigger group, and has the bayonet retaining bolt (not rivet). This is truely a military model and not one of the cheap ones made for export. Ofcourse it is no longer imported and it has all matching serial numbers. It is in like new condition, having only had 3 rounds fired. Because some SKSs were said to have a slamfire problem at the time I purchased this, I had to make sure this was not one of them. So, I fired 3 rounds (functioned perfectly), clean it thoroughly and it has been in the safe ever since. I am asking $350 for rifle, or for $425 will sell my ammo (120 rounds) and 3 30-round clips (2 Tapco new in package).
My question is when I buy an SKS I am going to shoot it. Should I just get a cheaper one and shoot the crap out of it. If I get the Norinco would I be stupid by shooting it? Is this a descent deal or should I keep looking?

i have been shooting my norinco since i bought it as a 14 year old kid in the 90s. Look on the left side of the reciver is there a triangle with a 26 .... mind you its an artsy 26 which really symbolizes 56 in chinese if i remember.
My serial number shows my rifle was made i think in 1962 or 64. I looked it up once a few years ago.
I search some sks links and find you a chart to decode it.
Not crazy for shooting, you cant wear them out. Its not limited edition they made millions, granted no more are comming over but i dont feel its crazy to shoot mine.
I am just finally getting around to debating putting a scope on mine after all these years.

Does it have a blade or spike bayonet?
My 1963 Chinese military SKS has a blade bayonet. It also has the milled triggerguard, threaded barrel and milled receiver and looks every bit like the Russian Tula SKS rifles. Mine was heavily used but all numbers match and it has a mint bore. Great shooter...as accurate as any other flavor of SKS.
I'd say shoot the one you have lightly but take care of it. This shoud not diminish its value all that much.
Are you sure it SAYS Norinco on it? Mine does not have Norinco on it anywhere and only has serial numbers and the Chinese characters (Toye 56) and the triangle factory code. This is a Vietnam bringback without any papers. Odd SKS...but a very good shooter.

$75.00 for 120 rounds of 7.62 seems very high. You can get 1,000 for $190 delivered to your door. For $350 it needs to be perfect and that's on the high side. Your getting near Russian prices at that point
