That's a lot of gun for Elk. Does the customer anticipate a need to shoot Elk at extended ranges?

I was going to say, elk were hunted almost to extinction with the 30-30. But what the customer wants............looks like you do gorgeous work though.

yeah apparently these days animals don't fall if you don't hit'em with the biggest damn magnum you can find. however this guy is an expert shot and wants to be able to drop'em out to 800 yrds. and the lapua round seems to be ideal for long distance big game

well at least he knows he can shoot them at 1000+ yards! well up here in idaho 7mms and 30 cals tend to do the job but what the hell its like shooting whistle pigs with a 223 a 17hmr will kill them just fine but a bigger cartridges kills them better.

but i really wonder what would happen if he shot one with a full power load at less then 100 yards. it seems like a large amount of tissue and MEAT damage

gorgeous rifle! i love the .338 but for me its pricey..more power to you tho...disregard the pun!

does anyone know can you hunt whitetail with .338 or will it just destroy them? thats why im building a .308 to deer hunt and hopefully it will do fine on elk.

well as far as damaging the meat if you use a high weight retention bullet like an accubond or partition the bullet usually just passes through and the meat damage isn't bad. however a hollow point or a ballistic tip and you'll paint the land scape red. i have tested that on whitetail with both the .338 and .458 win mag.

and to as far as price his final bill will be $3,600 but bear in mind that's a thousand dollars worth of optics and all high end parts with extensive machining.
