Sig 226 45?
Did Sig ever make a 226 in 45? I swore I saw one today at the gunshow. Didn't look close, maybe it was mismarked or something. Was smaller than a 220 45 next to it. Also, are any of the new Sigs imported, or do you need to buy used to get a W German one?

A 245 is a compact 45. Also the 220 is made in a few different varieties. I have only seen 226's in 9 & 40. All current production sigs are roll marked Exeter,NH but are not made here as Sig Arms is the US distributor not a manufacturer.

I don't believe that is correct. Most sigs (sold in US) are made in US now I believe. The WG versions are known to be higher quality though.

Yup I was 50% wrong. I just looked at my 5 Sig's my 2 229's, 226, &220ST the frames are made in Germany the slides in the US. My Mosquito does say made in Germany on the slide. I do know the older Sigs were made completely in W. Germany and are held in higher regard. Although I have have nothing bad to say about any of my centerfire Sig's after many thousands of rounds.

There is a Sig 220 compact but there is no such animal as a 226 in .45 caliber.

Don't bet the farm on this, but I think there are 3 standard 220's. Not counting the Elites, SAO, and target models.
There is the regular 220, the 220 Carry, which has a shorter slide/barrel, but the full length grip, and there is the 220 Compact. It has the shorter slide, and the grip is also shorter. The 220 Compact has a beavertail. It is the same size as the old 245 that did not have a beavertail.
The older 220's, and the 245, have folded metal slides, and many folks believe they are better balanced, and lighter, therefore more desireable. The 220 Compact, and the newer 220's have machined stainless steel slides.
There was also a 220 with European mag release, down at the base of the grip.
Once upon a time there was also a 9mm 220.
The 226 also comes in .357Sig.

MMM, must have been mislabeled. Pretty sure it said 45 on the tag and I could see 226 on the slide. Didn't inspect it though, probably a 40.

Every 226 I have ever seen was a fullsize pistol in 9mm, 40 or 357SIG.
SIG did make a shorty 220 called the 245 for a short time. It had a spotty reputation.
Yes, to get a totally made in Germany P-series today, I think you have to buy a used one. Most of the newer solid slide P-series guns are made in NH. Some like the solid slide guns...some do not. I hear stories of some having problems with the newer solid slide guns, but I shot a P229 in 40 one time and it was really nice. The friend that owns it has never had a lick of trouble out of it.
I tend to preferthe older sheet metal slide P-Series guns mainly because they don't feel as top-heavy as the solid slide guns. Unless you're real used to the older guns, you might not notice the topheaviness and it does not bother some shooters.

Wouldn't a 9mm 220 be a Sig 225?

Yes.
The 245 didn't have a spotty rep, no one bought them. It was a very reliable pistol and is really cool when worked up by TJ Custom.
