Looking for new 9mm handgun, suggestions??

I might be looking to pick up a 9mm handgun soon since ammo is much cheaper than .45 and was wondering what you would get. I don't think I want to get another XD service model since I have one in .45acp already. The gun would be used mostly as a range gun. I'm looking for something no more than $600 (but I could stretch my budget if necessary).

I've been looking at and wondering what are your opinions on:

1. Springfield XD 9mm 3" subcompact

2. Springfield XD 9mm 5" tactical

3. Beretta PX4 Storm

4. Beretta 90-TWO

5. anything else I might like??????

I haven't found much online as far as beretta reliability so hopefully someone on here has some experience.

I have the SC in 9, good gun. However, if you want a range gun, I would go with a longer barrel gun like the 90-2 or P30.

Range gun? The 90Two or Tactical. That order.

The XD9tac is superior to al of the guns you have mentioned. Both in price and shootabiliy. DA/SA guns like the 90-two and the PX4 tend to throw off shooters used to one trigger pull. It takes practice but you can make them work.

Also the added inch of barrel will give a slight edge to the XD.

I got my prev-owned Sig P228 for $600 with 4 hi-cap mags, it's a very nice gun considered by many to be the best 9mm in the world, or at least from Sig.

Since you said range gun, I'd suggest checking out the Glock 17L! L = Long

It's 9mm, has a 6.02" long barrel; comes with 17 round magazines, and you can use the Glock 18 magazines in it, which hold 33 rounds.

I'd say that's among the best 9mm range guns out there... if not thee best already.

I own the SC9mm and a buddy of mine owns the Tact9mm.At 10 yards theres no difference in the grouping.Im sure out at 20 yards or so mine would open up and his Might not,but for close combat thier the same IMO.

If you are open to other options then the ones you just listed you might check out the recently imported sig P6/ P225. They are a great gun for the money.

The only thing I don't like about glocks is how they fit in my hand and that the only safety is your trigger finger. 33 round mags seem a little overkill IMO. I have not held or shot this particular model so I'll have to look into it though, thanks.

Seems like people like the 90-TWO better than the PX4 storm, I've always liked the beretta 92, but I still have to go handle the 90-TWO to make sure it fits me right.

The Sig P228 seems like a very popular gun, although I might be a little worried buying a preowned gun and a new one is a little out of the price range. Are parts expensive to replace and is it easy to work on?

The XD 9mm tac seems like a great choice, since my service has had no issues and I shoot great with it. I just thought it might be cool to get something "different".

Anyone else have any ideas?? thanks!

I have been competing with my XD9 Tactical in both IDPA and USPSA with good results.
