870 barrel/epoxy/Trijicon sight install help!!
I was hoping someone could give me some tips on installing a front Trijicon sight on my Remington 870 barrel. Im pretty sure ill just go with the epoxy as I dont think it will come loose. Silver solder just seems like an over kill to me.
My question is, do I just glue it and kinda "eye it" on how straight it should be? Or is there a method to getting it dead nuts straight?
Thanks and hope to hear from you all soon!!

I'm betting the epoxy will fail in short order. Take it to a smith and let them set it up, if you're not comfortable doing a solder job.
No harm in trying the epoxy, but I don't think it's gonna hold up to the recoil and you will most likely kill the sight when it falls off and goes klunk, unless you get lucky and catch it.

the sight i have now is just pressed on (flat to flat), once i pop the current sight off it will be flat (slightly rounded).

Epoxy and JB weld will not hold. Its your gun, your choice but I would silver solder it on. If you dont have the equipment to do so, have your smith do it for a few $$.

I just dont see how they can heat up the spot ont he barrel without messing up the finish or the inside of the barrel. You gotta get silver solder pretty damn hot to melt.
On the other hand, I have never heard of anyone having probalems with the front sight falling off using epoxy. Epoxy is pretty damn strong.
Edit:: I asked the same question on www.shotgunworld.com and here is a reply I got.
You could use a soft solder. No rebluing of the bbl would be neccessary. You do risk the possibility that it could get knocked off. Soft (lead/tin type) solder doesn't have a lot of shear strength.
If you were to silver solder/braze it to the bbl, rebluing would need to be done. Here you are working with temps of around 1240 degrees.
If the sight company includes an epoxy, I'm sure that'll do the trick just fine
And yes, Trijicon does supply an epoxy with the sights. Im really weighing these two options out here leaning more towards using the epoxy method. I just dont see it falling off with epoxy, I really dont. If I go with silver solder, im looking at probably a big bill as not only am I paying for his labor but probably going to have to pay him to re parkerize my 870P barrel as well. And you know,if worse comes to worse and the sight does fall off with eopxy, its not like im sheyt out of luck you know. It will be a lesson learned and ill go down and pay the fee to get it "properly done".
Ill report back when all is done and ive ran a few hundred down the tube.

I'll be damned, I never and I mean NEVER would have guessed they would recoment epoxy. I know its strong but with the vibrations going on and the possibility of getting banged around, I would be suspicious.

Is there any way to drill and tap the sight/ barrel to reinforce the epoxy?
