Most common answer I would suppose would be AK47, SKS, Shotgun, if you have a really jacked up battle rifle I suppose it could work as well

My truck has a Chinese SKS, ammo, space blanket and two MREs at all times so in a REAL emergency I can live long enough to regret not just dying sooner and getting it over with.

I carry a handgun for quick self defense but nothing beats a rifle should something really go sour: much harder hitting, much better long-distance accuracy, much more likely the BGs will see you as a hard target and run away (the ideal ending to any self defense situation).
Be sure to put a simple sling on it, you can't scramble around like Rambo with a clunky rifle filling up both hands.

I remember reading that someone had an AK folder that he kept in a beat up tennis racket zippered soft case. Just left it laying on the back seat all the time, figured no-one would break into his car for a beat up racket

I dont have it in my pick-up all the time but I ave a Mossburg 500 with a pistol grip, 18 inch barrel. Came dealing with a Rattle snake and a Badger so far..
