Finish advice...

Well, I'll try to be brief...

I was given an old Colt 25. It was is crummy shape. I set it in my gun safe, and it got worse over the next maybe a year. It had lots of rust, and I started to clean it up. Scrubed and Scrubbed to find little, if any finish still there, and some pitting.

I dropped it in the home brew blueing stuff for a minute, and the next morning regretted it. I should have someone clean this up, and get a decent finish on it.

It's likely worthless for collector value (beat up, rust pitting, and no finish except what I put there), so I'm thinking something inexpensive, and hopefully corrosion resistant, so that I can slip this in my pocket from time to time.

I looked at NP3, and that's likely a $300 to $400 investment, by the time it's done.

Crap, I wouldn't mind having it parkerized. At least then it wouldn't rust any more.

What do you folks think? What would you do?

I was also given a Mossberg Brownie, which is, strangely enough, in really good shape...

I've read about Duracoat. Something like that?

Brownells also has a variety of do-it-yourself kits. Nice results for a good price.

Instead of just spray coating that old Colt, you should consider selling it. There still maybe some hope for a collector that may want to restore it. Then use the money on a modern pocket pistol or whatever you else you may want. I know that Mossberg Brownie will also bring a good return by collectors.

They were given to me "for good keeping", so selling them is out.

I'd sell the Colt in a heartbeat otherwise.

The Mossberg is kinda cool though.

Make a phone call to Lauer Custom Weaponry, http://www.lauerweaponry.com/duracoa...k&Category=220
and order whatever color Duracoat tickeled my fancy that day.

Then I'd detail strip the gun, sand blast it and spray it with the Duracoat.

I've done a couple of old beat up guns, they turn out very nice. Duracoat is easy to use.

Here's a S+W model 10 and an old Mossberg 500 I did for my son.
