I shot a buddy's m&p .40SW, and it felt nice in my hands but I prefer the xd45. I also thought the trigger felt "gravely" as stated above.

Why would I need a polymer .45 at all when I can have a 1911 instead?

My dept rec'd several test MP45's for eval. All were very loosely fitted, trigger was garbage on all. Slide to frame fit was horrible. Accuracy was poor with all shooters. These guns had an average of 2500 rnds thru them when we rec'd them.
Overall to those that tested it believed the MP to be no better than the Sigma line of pistols. Absolutely a disappointing weapon, not worthy of staking ones life on.
I wouldn't consider an M&P period.

Yes the first few mags were not too great but by the time I got 100rnds through it was getting down right smooth. The take up is different and takes some getting used to but the reset was not any different than the XD. As well, the recoil was very minimal for a .45acp. Is it possible to like both? I believe so!

Stick with the XD.

One reason I bought the XD was because it holds 13 rds. Something about a .45 that I could fit my medium-size hands around that holds that many .45s was irresistable! The M&P doesn't do that and I am a little leery of S&W autos anyway. Guns & Ammo liked the Sigma very well when it came out I remember- so much for their opinion!
For me, the XD45 is the gun of choice.

That's interesting - how long ago was that? I would be curious to know if that was an early run.

that is one thing I have thought about with all my firearms, how long before they start to get flaky.

I prefer the sub compact M&P to the sub XD, but I prefer my XD45 service to the M&P 45. I guess that's weird.

+1

I dont understand you guys with like 4 XDs. Typical brand loyalty thread. I dont know why people continue to ask comparison questions on a dedicated forum. At least if your gonna do it, ask the question on a non dedicated forum. You ask which gun is better on an XD forum, what do you think most of the responses are gonna be?

Strange seeing as how many depts. are adopting the XD. Here in Ohio, Cincinnati and Columbus just went to them. Theres another fairly large agency as well but I forget the city.

The MP is in no way a sigma. totally designed from the ground up. they learned their lesson with the sigma.
