Great guns, a little thicker receiver than most other AKs. The only ones to be concerned about were brought in by B-West, and it wasn't many of them. The ones imported by B-West are just fine.
B-West - American made, B-West imported AKs as well as manufactured AKs from parts kits. Their imported AKs are perfectly made as are Norinco or other Chinese arsenal weapons. Their receivers are the ones to avoid. They didn't heat treat the guide rails in the receiver, causing dramatic deformation after as little as 2000 rounds. Be sure you're looking at a B-West import and not B-West manufactured gun before you buy.
All the receivers that were built into factory guns had the serial number on the trunnion and in the form of BWA####, BWB####, BWC#### or BWD####. The receivers that were sold as stripped receivers or unassembled rifle kits were serialized on the right hand side of the sheet metal receiver in a 999#### configuration or on the left hand rear of the sheet metal receiver in a 989### configuration. B-West produced between 86 to 89 when the BATF discovered B-West was not actually producing the receivers on sight, but that a sheet metal fabrication company right down the road was doing the actual receiver manufacturing - without a license. To make it all go away, B-West got out of the AK making biz. Their rifles were made completely from Chinese parts and U.S. made sheet metal receiver.

Quick question for Einheit. What's your thoughts on a Bulgarin 1.6mm receiver by Lancaster Arms. I'm assuming the 1.6 is better than the 1mm yet not as costly as a milled receiver. I'm looking for a decent AK that will last and won't cost me an arm and a leg. http://www.eastcoastfirearms.com/sub...asp?page_id=61

The one im looking at is a Norinco, Wondering if they have any knows problems. it has the thumbhole stock instead of standard grip, looks nice. tryin to figure out what theyre worth and what to look out for.

Some Norinco rifles have an 'angled' receiver at the rear. Hard to find stocks for, or you have to make a spacer to fill the gap.
angle cut...
square cut (standard)...
Some Romanian rifles....
Here's a receiver guide.....you cannot tell untill you a) take off the stock (best and easiest way) or b) pull off the top cover, remove the recoil/return spring and the bolt carrier and shine a light at the rear so you try to see the receiver cut (if you can) or the trunion shape (still hard to be accurate)

Thats a Global Trades/Armory USA receiver (GTA). Never seen the need for a 1.6 other than preference. All mine are built on older 1mm and NDS (NoDakSpud) receivers. Vector Lancaster, Red Jacket...I've good and bad from them all, but most only focus on bad. They all come with a warrenty, and all do great work. Arsenal guns are expensive, and I've heard of lemons from them too. The good part is that Arsenal guns are 100% new firearms and not demilled from 'new' guns. I'd buy any of them, and the 1.6mm I really see no reason for the added expense and having to fit furniture to it. And if anything ever does happen and you have to replace any trunions-you have to grind them down to fit the thicker receiver. The outside dimensions are correct, the added .6mm are inside-nothing wrong with it, just really doesn't do anything unless you are gonna make a heavy caliber conversion (x54r) or make it a Class III (illegal).....

I havnt paid yet, and am thinking of just not getting that one, and getting a different one (all black, cant remember name) and an olympic AR-15 as well
