My AK-47 Got a New Look! (Pics)

So, I realized that I probably couldn't drop the $$ I wanted to on the AR-15 carbine, so I paid a lot less for some cool toys for my AK. It had really great furniture on it, so I always felt bad shooting the crap out of it. Well, after a new stock, forend set, pistol grip, vertical grip, red dot and the light from my shotgun, it's ready for a day chewing up ammo at the range.

The fun part was getting the waffle mag to work. I just compared it to an existing mag and sanded on it until I got it to strip rounds correctly. I'll get it out to the range ASAP for a test function. Hopefully it will work and then I'll stock up on mags. The AK LOVES cheap steel-case wolf ammo, so I'm definitely going to buy a case once it becomes available at my favorite store again.

So - whacha think? It's .223 by the way.

thats not a ProMag waffle is it?? If it is, good luck.
Make sure that the cas tube cover fits nice and tight, if not its gonna piss you off if you try for a tight print.

looks good, don't care for the butt stock, but hey if you like it I love it....

All good stuff. I've seen that poster before and love CCCP "prop" art. The cleaning rod has never quite fit right - not for sure what's up with that. I use a Tipton Carbon Fiber rod to clean anyway, so it pretty much stays in the gun so I don't lose it. I actually wouldn't mind just using some blue locktite and setting it in place so it doesn't walk out when I shoot it. I still have the wood, and was careful not to damage it when removing it.

I got a good source on the Promag mag. It only cost me $10, so I thought what the heck. Compared to my Weiger mags, the front and rear lugs are in the same spot. The only difference was thicker feed lips that kept the rounds from sitting as high in the mag well. I took an emery board and filed underneath until they sat at the same level as the Weiger mags. It will feed 100% when racking the bolt back and letting go. I have high hopes for the function thest, hopefully this weekend.

BTW - if things go south with this mag, do you have a source for Weigers? Century is the only place I know of and they have tons of order limits and fees.

Never been a fan; but that AK looks pretty nice!! Is it a Saiga? I've been considering those for a week or so now.

Nice. Very nice.

I like the forearm grip, but there's something about putting modern optics on an AK that just rubs me the wrong way. And .223? I think I'm discovering I'm a traditionalist when it comes to these rifles.

Bottom line: you like it, good for you. Go forth and enjoy it.
