Samco versus Classic Arms - preference?
I am inching closer to buying a mauser, finally. I have narrowed my search to 2 suppliers...Samco & Classic Arms. I know that the mauser that I'm considering at Classic actually comes from Samco. But it appears the pricing is the same.
Have any of you bought rifles from either? If so, can you share your experience - e.g., was the gun what you expected, shipping cost, customer service?
Thanks.

My K98k and Chilean M95 Mauser both came from Samco. I used to order military surplus ammo from Samco as well.
They always sent me good stuff. Their Portugese and Austrian 8mm surplus was the best 8mm I have ever shot. Ditto for their FN/Belguim made 7x57 and the Swedish 9mm pistol ammo they used to sell. Lately, their offerings have gotten expensive and narrow, though.
That said, I would order from Samco with confidence. My uncle ordered a Persian Mauser from Samco about a year ago and recived a BEAUTIFUL rifle, indeed.
The Czech made 98K I received was also a beautiful rifle. Matching serial numbers and a near mint bore. Great shooter. If they still have the post WWII Czech assembled 98ks with the winter trigger guards...go for one of those. They're very well made rifles that were built in the CZ factory right after they were liberated from the Germans.
My 1895 Chilean Mauser was also a very nice piece. The bore was a bit dark, but it had very good wood and bluing. The dark bore shot very good, so I was not all THAT unhappy with the rifle.
Does Samco still have Swedish Mausers? If so, I highly reccommend a Swede over just about any Mauser. Probably why I have three of them! The Swede and Persian Mausers were the nicest things Samco had for sale.

Thanks for your help. They have the Swedish ones; but it appears they only have them in Fair condition. I can get a Yugo in Excellent condition for $30 less than the Fair condition Swede.

A fair condition Swede is still better built than most "very good" eastern bloc Mausers. Remember, the Swedes never used corrosive ammo so the chances of getting a Swede with a rusty/pitted bore are next to nothing. The machining and build quality of the Swede Mausers is excellent. I have never seen a mismatched or ratty looking Swede.
My 96/38 Short Rifle Swede was bought from Samco in "fair" condition...that meant the wood needed refinishing (light sanding and some linseed oil and it looked nearly new) and the bluing was very thin. Mechanically, it shoots as good as my pristine 1905 Long M-96 Swede and has a bore that looks similar. You'd never guess that the rifle was made on 1909...it groups like it was made last week.
Samco has their Czech made 98ks with the winter trigger guard (just like mine) for about 100 bucks more than the Yugos. This isa true 98k Mauser action. I bought one in "very good" condition and it looked nearly new. Great shooter, too. They also have "very good" Persian Mausers for 200 bucks...a steal for a rifle of that quality.

I've never ordered from Samco, but have two from Classic Arms. Top notch people to do business with, IMO.

Yes, I ahve bought tons of stuff from Aim Surplus over the years - guns and ammo - and they're a VERY good company to deal with.
My list of "dandies" from Aim include:
A Husqvarna M-38 6.5x55mm Swedish Mauser
A 1918 built P-08 Luger with East German Polizei markings
An Isralei Mossad contract FN Hi-Power
A near mint 1954 No4 British Lee Enfield 303
An unfired Bulgarian Military Makarov
Every time, they sent me a fantastic piece. Same for ammo - I have bought ammo from Aim since 1990 and have always gotten good quality stuff. Right now, they have Yugo 24 Mausers for 100 bucks apiece...thats a pretty good deal.
