Stoeger Cougar?
Hey, the recent issue of Gun's and Ammo highlighted the Cougar 8000 that is being reintroduced by Stoeger. I have seen a little on them, but was wondering if anyone has had any first hand info on it and it's availibility.
It looks like a nice little piece for the $350 retail.
Anyone seen one? Quality and shooting comments?

I saw that there was now some info on the internent, but so far my dealer has not come through. Still looking to hear if they are going to be available soon. As well, if anyone has any experioence with the older Beretta version if the Cougar 8000?
What are the advantages of the rotating barrel?

Low recoil, according to this source: http://www.gunsworld.com/beretta/8000coug_us.html
The movement & rotation of the barrel help to take up some of the recoil energy.

If I understand it correctly though, the barrel rotation is guided by a pin inside a track. What happens when that thing jams?
Also, is there any risk of the barrel guide pin getting derailed? Can it break under stress, and if so, does the barrel fall out?
I'm intrigued also. It's a pretty pistol.

I don't have a detailed review, because I've never fired one. However, from everything I've read over at "Beretta Forum" they're just as reliable as the original beretta cougars were. (It's the same design, made on the same tooling, in a different country (turkey, I believe))That is, very very reliable. The rotating barrel is a time tested design that does work, although if you were to do a torture test on it (fill it w/ mud, freeze it, sand bath, etc) it probably would fail. Beretta PX4's are practically the same design as the cougar also if that helps anyone. ? As far as availiblity, supposedly they're just testing the waters with one run of them for right now in 9 and 40. If they're sucessful (how can the not be? 350 for a cougar?!) they'll most likely continue production (and hopefully make an Inox version in 45acp.)

Something else to look into. I beleive though that is guided by three lugs on the barrel in some type of track. I guess that is why I am asking.
