Savage 93R17GVXP - Out of box 1/4" group @ 35 yards.

Spent $216.06 on a Savage 93R17GVXP (that's the package with the crappy scope).
First time out, yesterday, there were nasty winds at the big outdoor range, and I was late, so I only could shoot at the 100 yard metal targets. Couldn't tell anything- had electronic ears on, was disappointed.
Today went to the indoor range. Only goes to 35 yards (big for indoor around here).
Used a cheapie front rest. First 3 shots were touching. Second two shots were touching. Finally got a flyer on next magazine (my error).
Had my first true single ragged hole 3-shot group ever. Granted, it was at 35 yards, not 100, but unquestionably the best shooting I've ever done. I use Shoot-N-See's, and started using the four 1" patches as targets after I sighted in.

Moral of the story:
If you are in the market for a rimfire and can swallow the ammo cost of 17HMR vs .22LR, get a Savage 93R17. Today was a truly amazing day, one for the books. Better than the day getting consistent 3" groups offhand with an open sighted K31 (that was up there, for me at least).
I really hummed and hawed over getting the 17HMR.. is it that much better that a 22LR? But the ammo cost.. blah blah blah. That thing flat out rules., Yes, it is that accurate, that much better than 22LR. Amazing.

I've been saying this since the day I bought mine.... They are by far the cheapest, most accurate out of box rifle one can buy.

I can vouch for that too. Without a doubt the most accurate out of the box gun you can get. I've loved mine so much that I went and got a lefty wood version also. Fantastic gun for the money.

What scope/ring/base setups do you have on your 93R17's?

Thumbs up

+1 on Savage's out-of-the-box accuracy.

My Mark II-F is a very accurate rifle as well. Even more so with the Mueller scope on it.

For the price+accuracy+quality, you can't go wrong w/ Savage Arms.
