AK parts kit banned from import??
Surfing the net and found the AK parts kit on sportsman's guide:
http://www.sportsmansguide.com/cb/cb.asp?a=282512
The description says: "federal fireams laws have prohibited parts kits from entering the country since December 31, 2005."
What!? Is this the G-men's another triumph to starve off the supply of the "evil" AK? Should I start to stock pile the AK parts?

The might be refering to the barrel ban that the ATF just made up. Barrels now have to be chopped just like receivers IIRC.

No new kits will becoming into customs. There are thousands of kits still in customs. Barrels will come with kits unless it has no 'sporting' use at all if built. Even if they do make you give up the barrels, more can come in as 'replacement' parts. One of the main things that has caused this is people making thier own AK receivers from flats and manufacturing thier own weapons that is totally leagal if they use the correct amount of US parts. So you buy an $89 AK kit, a $40 receiver flat, bend it, and put together a weapon that no one but you knows about...

I wouldn't pay 600 for a kit that's highway robbery. You can buy an 'new' or at least a complete AK for that much.
Try centerfire systems. They had much better deals.

Wondering what is the definition of sporting use on barrels? Minus bayonet lug or flash hide?

Barrel length, caliber, and total length of weapon typically. 'Krinkov' (correct name AKU or AKSU for folders) kits are considered non sporting but are collectible a fall into a different catagory for importation sometimes. Also all these Yugo weapons have been in customs for a long time.
'Krink' kits are still $359-$1,000.....Yes you can get a complete AK for $600, but only certain ones. You will not get a 'Krink' or an AKS 74 for that unless its used. I kit build all my rifles except 1 that I bought complete because the kit and receiver was more expensive. $89 Romanian 'G' kit. $59 NoDakSpud (DCI) reciver (plus your FFLs transfer fee), $9 rivit kit or $30 screw and tap set. $40 compliance kit.....2-3 hours of your time sweat and blood and you have a complete legal AK cheaper than you can buy already built.......Besides that, new US made barrels aren't that expensive.....

$459....all you need is screw or rivits or a welder and you have one of the best 'Krinks' ever made......with an extention to make it 16" so no need for an SBR approval.....
