I had a Gen4 Glock 19 and liked it after I put every possible aftermarket part and combination of parts to lighten and smooth out the trigger. After that I upgraded my XD9SC trigger with a Springer Precision sear and trigger bar, and my XD became my favorite again. I then purchased a Steyr M9a1 which has the best trigger out-of-the-box for any polymer handgun and better ergonomics than the G19. I sold my G19 two months ago.
Glocks are good guns, but the rest of the market is leaving them behind in quality. Just because they have a bunch of police contracts doesn't make them great.

I say to each their own, shoot what you like and it's Glocks/Sigs for me. I think a good endorsement for Glock might be the TEAMS. My buddy with TEAM 5 says the Glock is the favorite unofficial handgun of the TEAM's. If I didn't like Glocks, I wouldn't care either way but it's good to know. I agree about the contracts for if the police were about the best with any contract, we would all be trying to drive Crown Vics!

The G22 is a very good gun. I have a 1994 made gen 2 G22 and it is one of the most reliable pistols I have ever owned.
Fortunately, there are tons of police trade G22s out there for sale. A bargain for a pistol that will run forever and mags and holsters are everywhere as well.
The smaller Glock 40s are had to control but the G22 is pretty easy to shoot if you ask me.

Just bought a Glock 19 and I love it! I absolutely hated Glocks when I first started shooting. But with time and as I matured in my shooting I have come to realize that the Glock 19 is where it is at! Love the low barrel bore axis.

Most people that are experienced shooters can pick up a G19 and shoot reasonably well with it.
Well enough to pass any CCW or police qualification test.
...seriously.

I've got multiple xd9's, subbie to tactical. Glock19 is a great pistol. Have one and love it.
