Glocks are great. To quote a recent poster (in another thread): "Everybody should own a Glock" (paraphrasing).

The G19 is a great pistol, and I do prefer the Gen4 issue. The back strap change to smallest, or no added back strap will make the grip 3mm smaller in your hands. It made a big difference to my wife's grip.
A G19 is on my short list, but am currently packing the G26 for CC, but carry a spare G19 mag with the x-grip spacer, that instantly expands my capacity from 11 to 16.
If the Glock fits you, by all means make the move. "Your physiological and technological likeness will be added unto ours. Resistance is futile!"

I have a G19 gen 3 and an XD9sc. The Glocks "ok", but watch the grip fit in your hand. Hate the little bumps, they don't line up with my fingers for a good SOLID grip. Thank god my daughter likes it. (I wanted a G17) Shoot my XD9sc MUCH better. (it has mag grip extension on it and CT grips) Just my .02 cents.

Let me also throw this out there. Take a good look at the Ruger SR9 series. Has got to be the most overlooked, underrated poly 9 out there. Similar grip angle as the Glock, and has less pre-travel, and identical reset on the Go switch. And....cost much less to boot.

Everyone should have a 1911. And everyone should have a Glock 19. It truly is a great gun.

I could not agree more...
I'd highly recommend a Glock 19 or Glock 17.
I favor the Gen 1s and Gen 2s since I don't care for the finger grooves.
Any Glock you buy will have a better stock trigger then the sloppy XD/XDm/XDs line of pistols.
And if you don't like your stock Glock trigger it is easily and cheaply modifiable...
Unlike the XD line that requires a $100 upgrade to make it acceptable..

I have never owned a Glock simply bc I don't like the way they feel in my hand. To me, they feel more "plastic" than other plastic guns I own. However, my stepson owns one and loves it. I have shot it well the few times I have shot it but I still can't get past the feel. Rent it at your local range first and see what you think. I just traded my S&W 6906 (hated it) 9mm plus $189 for a M&P 40. I rented it first and liked it plus I didn't have a 40. You can pick up the S&W M&P for $399 to $450 around here new with 2 mags plus Huntsville Police Dept carries them which tells me they aren't a bad gun. Ultimately it's your call. Guns are like girls, what I find hot you might find hideous!

I have a Gen 4 G17 and it's a great gun! It solved all the ergonomic criticisms I had against Glocks (grip size, grip texture, mag release). My G17 has been 100% reliable thus far and I'm very happy with it. Haven't shot the 19 but I've no doubt it will be excellent as well.
Buy whichever gun feels better to you and don't worry about anyone calling you a fanboy or whatever. I'm sure you'll love the G19, and if you don't you can sell it easily and get something else.
