Browning BDA / Sig P220 9mm

picked up a browning off a guy i used to work with and im lookin for something i could shoot with it bein so hard to find out anything about the gun online i figured it has to be some what of a rarity so its been a safe queen at the moment...would it be worth hanging on to or should i trade it to something newer...its a 77 9mm with euro heel mag release but a very nice gun very accurate what little ive shot it...also my first handgun and as i said i want something i can shoot alot...and if u could give me some info about the gun and around what its worth or what i could expect out of a trade it would be very much appreciated...thanks in advance

I have one just like it in 45ACP.

Before SIG got its US import license, they used Browning's import license and brought the original P-series pistols into America as the Browning BDA. SIG only did this for three years - 1977 through 1979 and that was it. So these pistols ARE fairly rare. The 9mm and 45s are more common than the 38 Super and the 38 Super versions command some crazy high prices.

The BDA was basically the same pistol that the Swiss Army adopted and was the first SIG P-series pistol. Later on, SIG expanded this line and we saw the P220, P225, P228 and P226 come out of this line up. Your pistol was the basis for the W. German SIGs that built SIG's reputation.

The BDA or P220 Euro was a very well made pistol. It is very accurate and mine has been 100% reliable with everything I feed it. My uncle bought my BDA back in 1977 and willed it to me about 8 years ago. When I got it, I had no idea how rare it was and used it as a carry gun and have put quite a few rounds through the gun. If you can live with the heel mag release...it is a very reliable shooter that will put the bullets where you want them.

I'd keep it and shoot it every now and then. The BDAs are collectables and they were only made in that configuration for 3 years and will only go up in value later on.

Yeah...I'd keep it. Those BDAs are just not very common.

If you want to shoot it a lot....I'd say go for it. The older SIG P-series guns were very durable and can take tons of shooting.

I have thousands and thousands through my BDA 45 and it literally shows no signs of giving up or coming apart. The only thing I did was swap the recoil spring and that took maybe 2 minutes and 5 bucks from Wolff Springs.

dont have the box and papers wish i did...and i have the original mag and found a place in canada that has the original mags for 60 bucks a pop

They regularly sell on GB and other places for 500-700 bucks.

I'd keep it because after you shoot it...that thing will spoil you. It may be just an 8-shot 9mm with a heel release but it is better made than 90% of hte guns made today and very accurate/reliable.
